I must say that in all my games when controlling Scotland (only Danes and English) i have had absolutly no rebellions what so ever!
Have a keep and 4 spears a assasin, a emassairy and a preist and a 3 star gen to begin with. Then as the years go on and a few changes to the tax rate, reduce the spears to 2 unit it is your teritory.
I play on normal tho. so it may be different for hard/expert.
My advice: 300-500 men, 2-3 spies, a bishop, and a king in a province that has a port with an unobstructed line of ships to Scotland.

you probably keep killing the rebels.
let them all go free and keep a decent-sized army to keep the loyalty up. and low taxes for a while, too.
Scotland, Ireland and Portugal are notorious Rebellion provinces, so they require extra care.
I have hold livionia for about 100 years but many battles have been faught between my byzantines troops against french, german and hungary troops. Just suddendly they started to rebell even though I had a keep and a garrison of 200 men plus a bishop. I stopped the rebellion and set the taxes to very low but it just rebell every year this had gone on for about 20 years now and I dont know what to do.
Keeping a governor with high Dread in an otherwise rebellious province helps too.

Livonia and Lithuania are also very perky provinces........ Apply the same safekeeping methods as you would to Scots or Portugese.....

I assume you all have border forts in these rebellious provinces, yes? Remember, the enemy has spies too.
Maybe it has more to do with the location of your king. Is Scotland cut off from your king??

I have had Scottish rebellions aplenty.

Hmmm mabye i should stop killing the poor bastards....buy hey thats my policy for all rebelions
As for my king he's down in spain helping the crusaders against the elmoheads....could be that also
Just had scotalnd rebel twice(in 8 years), though im begining to like the rebelions the local governor is up to 3 stars from 0 and his dread is 5. And the rebels are pretty easy to put down due to Low morale and routing......mabye scottish rebel not a bad thing at all

The trick with Scotland is an iron hand in a velvet glove holding a big hammer. In other words keep a strong garrison, keeps taxes low (the difference is almost negliable since the province generates bugger all anyway), and if they rebel have enough troops on standby to ship in and hammer it.

Whenever I play England, I maintain a small garrison, set Scottish taxes to "very high", and maintain a ridiculously large rapid response force in Northumbria, preferably with billmen, Welsh longbowmen, and the best cavalry I can field. I then butcher the Scots like so much sheep, every time they revolt. No prisoners.
Oh. I also raise all the structures. Except for that small keep, 'cause it looks like the little wooden fort in "Braveheart".
I call this my "Oda Nobunaga" gambit. It may not be efficient, but it keeps my interest high. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif
