In the game only Epirios and HK can train them..
Is it true that other hellenic factions like AS or Ptolemoi have them in history or they have similar cavalry fights same manner??
It wold be unhistorical that I make AS and ptolemoi have them??
 my bad english!! :laugh4:

(Tarantine Elite Cavalry)
Really they're Greek Elite Cavalry, in sense they shouldn't be an AOR
But Other Greek factions should also be able to get them...(including Rome)Inho atleast.
EDIT:Hmm,.. lots of Elites can be recruited Cordinau Orca for instance.
Of course thats an Independant nation, but still.
Well either way I don't know how to do it, but It wouldn't be ahistorical.

I don't know why the Tarantine cavalry were left out from the recruitment roster for AS, Ptolies & co.
Still:
1) You get Hetairoi Aspidophoroi. Different name but basically the same type of unit; albeit with a bigger shield ...
2) You can very rarely hire some Hippeis Tarentinoi as mercs near Alexandreia or Antiocheia with 1.1; and you can hire them much more easily in their 'natural habitat'.
3) You can proceed to add this unit to your faction's unit roster using one of the 3 or so skins & GUI sets made for this unit. AFAIK there's no model issue which would prevent you from doing it; make sure to back everything you want to change up first, though.

Hippeis Tarantinoi were a regular part of the cavalry of many of the Hellenistic states of the period we speak of. This is something that will be fixed for EB2. Hetairoi Aspidophoroi were more of the Assault type than Tarantinoi were.

But wasn't Tarantinoi simply a catch-all name for hippakontistoi type of cavalry? I doubt all of them would have been Tarentines.

I don't think that ANY of the latter period Tarentines were actually from Taras. Their name did come to signify a better armored shield carrying hippakontistai unit.

Weren't they a bit more heavier armored than the hippos (lino-thorax vs. leather throw over)?

Leather isn't really superior to lineothorax AFAIK. Lineothorax is one of those things that get re-invented every now and then: composite armour. (Which is essentially very similar to modern day body armour too..)

....
We just had a break down in communications.
I said Tarentines were also more heavily armored than the other hippo's cause they wear lino-thorax.

Ah yeah; I see. Mixed up there as I got it you mentioned the Hippeis (of whom a fair few also could/might/did 've worn/wear the stuff).
But yeah Hippakontistai are basically in everything a lower grade/quality version of this unit.
The Campanian Equities are pretty much Aspidophori/Tarentines too I think.

If you want to read about the historical background of the Tarantine cavalrymen, this is an excellent article which covers all the basics:
