What determines the routability of your commander or Daimyo? I notice that if you pull him out of a confrontation or pull him too far back, it turns into a rout, and "showing the backside to the enemy".
Is it distance from your own army?
Or just the fact that he's suddenly pulled out?

He shouldn't rout from being far away from army. Showing backside to enemy weakens moral (which determines routability btw) when the enemy unit is close.
It's possible you are getting autoroute, a bugged feature where commanding a unit to move away from an enemy unit causes them to route and they can't be rallied.

Thanks, Sasaki Kojiro!
Just managed to get Shogun to work again, so far without hitches. Hopefully I'll be back with more (non technical) issues.
The Benny Hill code as it was called. Units have different amounts of close in and withdraw before it kicks in (I think it depends on the amount of morale a unit has, not sure).
The code can be fooled: if you do not simply close in, but order an attack on the unit (and close in that way), only to cancel it seconds later, the counter will be reset.
