EB with Ubuntu

I couldn't find the real answer so i'll give it a try.

I have been playing EB for a while now ( since 0.7) on windows XP.
But now i'm about to install Ubuntu and i wonder if EB would still run?

Anybody uses Ubuntu while playing EB???

I honestly have no idea. If at all possible, you could install Ubuntu as a dual boot, so you still have XP intact just in case?

Well, it might work with Wine, but not all PC games work.

According to this thread (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=98847&highlight=wine) in the Hardware/Software subforum, TW games don't work real well on Wine. Sorry.:shame:

R:TW, according to these reports (http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=4496), doesn't work too bad on the latest unstable (BETA) version of Ubuntu under Wine. It works less well on the older (stable) builds though and won't work at all on some other Linux variants.

You could try it with Cedega, but the problem is you will be using a lot of RAM on top of what you are already using just for EB.

Then again, I don't like Cedega as a product because they aren't really playing by the GNU rules.

I know the deal here; I'm on a Debian/Win XP dual boot on my laptop, and on a triple boot Debian/Solaris/Win XP in my workstation at home, and while emulators might work (It depends on; WINE is really horrid for most of the time, you might want to try VNC or something else, but I wouldn't count on it). It's pretty much the only reasonable solution, lest you want to buy another HDD.

Wine works well for quite a number of games, but unfortunately RTW isn't one of them. I wouldn't even think of trying EB on wine, it's already slow enough as it is. (and it's also one of the few reasons making me keep that windows partition).
