See the official site for full details. Here's the bullet points:

- multiplayer strategic game ain't soup yet, so they're releasing without it. When it's ready, they will release as a free download.

- multiplayer tactical stuff is in.

- no firm release date quoted other than "on the shelves in June".

This belongs in Mongol Invasion (http://www.totalwar.org/cgi-bin/ubb/forumdisplay.cgi?action=topics&number=7&SUBMIT=Go). Thread moved.

Yep, despite the inevitable overflow of topics into GD, I still think the breadth of this issue should be explored here, where it belongs.

That said, I was... not pleased to see this. In fact, as an image says more than a thousand words, my first reaction was this:

http://www.totalwar.org/images/Staff/Anssi/Seppuku.gif

However... It's not so bad, is it? I mean, we'll get the expansion pack - a bit late, but we'll get it. Assuming they make the release date. They should, considering how much less work they'll have to do now.

But I just hate it when the doomsayers are right. I so hate it. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/frown.gif

This is a reasonable compromise. We will get most of the XPack soon, and then the Online Campaign shortly after that. I can live with that. At least we are still getting the online campaign, just a little delayed. I prefer this than delaying the release until the online campaign is ready.

Remember when we were going to shortly get patch 1.13?

Here's another piece of gristle that I want to give everyone else a chance to chew on for a while.

The post indicated that they were holding off on the MP campaign due to "stability and scalability" issues. To me, that doesn't sound like they are going to release an 8-Clan version online like we have now in the SP campaign. Scalability to me means many more players than that! Yes it is possible that they are referring to scaling the number of units in the game, but IMO I don't think that's what they're talking about. I think that they're talking about an online version of the "Grand Campaign" that we had discussed here last fall (development of which ended when the x-pack was announced with a built-in online campaign).

Magy, I know how sensitive your 6th sense is, but consider the alternative. You may end up with the opportunity to dominate 40 or more other players in an online campaign and not just on the battlefield!

So what do the rest of you think?

I think they can't even do an 8 clan game...so 40 is just a pipe-dream http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/frown.gif

This only serves to remind us all just what an incredible pain in the ass building the online campaign must be. It didn't make the cut for 2 releases running a year apart!

How many posts have I read where people say "It's easy, just blah blah blah!"?

IT AIN'T EASY FOLKS!

I hope we see it but I won't hold my breath.

Take heart Anssi! So what if the doomsayers were right? You've remained positive, happy and content for months not worrying about it. The doomsayers on the other hand have been down right miserable for months on end worrying about a game. The doomsayers are the ones with the blood pressure problems. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

Hey Maggy,

Popping up again here...

Your 6th sense?, ah, that must be because you lost the other 5, didnt you? http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif

Hmmm, "online campaign shortly after". did they fool anyone with this? Just review the game history on releases..

Good luck guys !!

Hi Metha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We miss you.....truly!

Hey Ship! Good to see you again, you must be finally settling into the new job! Pipe dream it may be, but it's a damn good smoke my friend! And I did ask! Actually, I would think that having more players would be even easier as the game could be reduced to 3 very distinct segments, the orders segment, the resolution segment and the battle segment. Someone had mentioned on another thread that things would be quite difficult for anyone playing either Oda or Mori (Imagawa also for that matter) against other humans without incorporating the port attack option. I would tend to agree as the outer clans have an entire flank protected by water while the interior clans do not.

Guess we'll all find out in a couple of weeks (there's that obscene phrase again!).

I completely agree Nelson; if DT were to claim in the end that they tried, but simply couldn't make it happen, I won't hold any grudges.

Designing a workable multi-player campaign is a very dificult endeavour. I used to watch Target and Ben@DT talk endlessly on MIRC about the difficulties involved + I don't think that the average patron really grasps how tough a project it is. (Gawd know's I didn't until I overheard them speaking about it).

Seemingly it's just one of those rare type of nightmare projects that engenders two problems for every one that you are able to solve.

..

P.S. Hey Metha! http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif
