add_population cityname -4000

This works. As implied in his post, 4000 is the limit of each adjustment.

Maximum of +4000 is the limit of each adjustment. You can decrease as much as you want from what I hear. So -3052539 would work fine.

I don't think so.

I've tried add_population Pergamon -6000, and it worked fine.

The limit is 40,000 (at least with the money cheat)

the limit to add is 4000. To substract doesn't really have a limit defined by the game. Though it probably is limited to a certain amount, because of the way the program handles variables (numbers). Not sure how many bits it uses.
