View Full Version : Most Cost Effective MP unit?
personally i think Byz Inf, valour 4
these guys you can have in overwherlming numbers, and just occupy thier army, and ad som wieght to one of your flnks, can take out most armies, and for only a small price

Very true, My first "winning tactic" was using these guys in bulk. Basically I used to put them in a long line, engage the enemy, and finally envelop the line. With valor 3-4 they have morale of 6-8 which clearly offsets the poor morale, their defense rating is very good also nearing the high end spears unit which means they can hold the line for quite some time.
The downside with them is they will rout easily when flanked or rear attacked, and you must win quickly because when they're tired they suck big time. And of course there's always the honour issue of using them http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif.
Currenlty I'm liking the polish retainers, very tough cavalry units without the crazy price of a knight which is usually around 3000-5000 at high valors. Late in my games, my alans usually got used up to less than 10 horsies due to their poor defense, using the retainers I can still hold some 15 or more units enough to make an impact to break the rest of the enemy.

Ha i remember beating you bosdur with your winning tactic lol
The only problem is you dont remember me beating you, cause now im keeping track of all the poeple i beat or lose to, a memory jogger so to speak.
Ok back to the point where im gonna use 10000 florins army ok, so in an army of 16 units the best back up units to use are the feudal foot knights at valour 4 they create a nice little bonus for the front rancks to know they have experienced troops behind them. It has only failed me once when i was outnumbered.
I think a row of 4 or 5 feudal foot knights at valor 4 are the equivalent to super ashis but only in bulk atacks are they good.

retainers are definitly good as well, crrnetly ive been looking to units that are most effective at taking out spears, and one of my now favoured tacits is having your own army of mid valour spears (2-3) against thiers, make them as wide as you can withought hurting thier rank bonus, and marh them to a point beyone the enemy when attacking, this should occupy thier entire line. then using your far flanks, have a unit or two of FMAA to march behind, then from a long lin about 1-2 men deep, then march them into the enemyies rear... this can usually cause most enemies to rout at a quite effective cost
