1) Can generals or units be upgraded? I have some good generals who are commanding peasants. I would like to keep him but with a better unit of course.

2) How does trade work? Will the income increase if there is a port? Do I need to have boats in the water to get overseas income???

3) Is it worth it to have a trade house in a territory w/o tradeable goods??

4) Should I bother having a trade house and/or port in a city w/o tradeable goods?

Thanks.

Hi,

I'm no expert, but I've been playing like mad since M:TW came out. Here's what I know:

1. The general is tied to the unit. If he's commanding peasants, you're stuck with peasants. You CAN put him back through production by dragging his unit (NOT the army he's in) to the unit production queue in a province that can produce his unit type.

Doing so will fill up his unit and give that unit any valor, armor or weapon bonuses available in that province. No, you won't loose any bonuses the unit had from other locations.

2. For trade you need: a port at both ends, an unbroken line of ships (if you're at war even ONE enemy ship in your sea zone will block trade) and a Trading Post or better.

3 & 4. My impression is that provinces with a port and no resources still get some benefit, but I'm unsure how much. To check, bring up the money parchment and click on a province. You'll see how it's income is broken down for trade.

Personally, for military reasons I put a port everywhere, so that troops can quickly respond, but I find my income really jumps once this process gets rolling. I also build a huge navy to make sure the sea lanes stay open.

3&4. provinces with no tradeable good don't give the trading post build option, so the question is invalid.
