I am confused about trading. I will give a very specific example.
I am the english and have a trading post and port in wesses(which has tradeable wool)
I then have a trading post and port in Flanders which is right across the water. Flanders has tradeable wool, silk and grain.
I have a barque in the english channel which connects the 2 territories. I also have another barque in the north sea.
But I get no income to the ports and the amount I get from the trading posts has not increased with the ports and the boats.
What am I doing wrong??

Do you have the Trading post?? You need it.

Yes, I have a trading post in both. I also have ports in both.
Is having a barque good enough to establish the supply line or do I need a different type of boat??
This trading stuff seems like it should be easy but it is not working for me.

Right click ont he Merchant, that will show you the trading income you get from it. For some reason the ports always show 0. But as you add new ships that connect you to new ports, you will notice that the merchants income goes up for each port.

Merchant?
I have a trading post and port in each territory. Is this not enough?
I believe a Merchant is the upgrade.
Can I not get $ from trade routes w/o Merchant??
Thanks.

you might also want to try putting ships in other allied port provinces(connecting them to your own port/trading post provinces). That's where the money is.

Maybe my problem is connecting the territories.
For instance I have a boat(barque) in the "English Channe;" waters. Does this connect Wessex territory to Flanders territory?
It seems like it should.
I believe you can only trade to allied or neutral ports. No revenue is gained from trade between your own provinces. This is why you are making no profit from the trade between Flanders and Wessex.

Oh.
That would explain it!
Can anyone confirm this?
Can you NOT gain trade revenue from between your own territories?
Do your allies or neutral provinces need to have trade posts or just ports?
Thx
You can only trade with allies or neutrals, you cannot trade with rebels, enemies or yourself. Allied or neutral provinces do not need to have trading posts, the only requirements are that they have ports, that you have a ship in a sea zone with that port and that sea zone is not blocked by enemy ships.
Nope cant trade with your own provinces
and as long as your allied
eutrel provinces dont have the same good as the province you have your trading post in all should go good.

Must we have this same question develop into another thread?
Tough Guy, see the Table of Contents for explanations of Trade:

Just to clarify, Trading Post for inter-province "land" trade; Merchant for "sea" trade. You cannot trade with yourself!

good eye, Toranaga. With that, I'll close this thread.
