View Full Version : Everyone with 1 GB or less pay attention!

There's a new fix available for the script, most likely save game compatible (make some backups just to be sure). People with 1 GB or less will probably benefit mostly.

It consists of an optimization of the client ruler script done by LordBula. It greatly increased my enjoyment by seriously decreasing the time between turns.

It's here:

can we pay attention even if we have more than 1 gb?

You're too privileged to worry about paying attention. :whip:

EDIT: But it is for everyone of course, have fun!

I already tried it out, and the AI turn is drastically reduced, performance of the PC is great. So any one with 1 GB of Ram should install this fix.

Cheers.

It will cut wait times almost in half for anyone. But of course if you have 15sec wait times 6-7 seconds cut is not so much if you compare it with guy that waits 2minutes now and should have waiting times a bit over 1min with this fix.

I have to say I bought a gig of ram this week for 29.99 (and $4 shipping) and I'm not complaigning.. I haven't got it yet (ordered it tuesday) but I think that's cheap. Its worth is for the game I think. oh and I'm a poor college student.. So yah. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post wear I bought it, but its at www.edgetechcorp.com u can delete this post if this is breaking rules. I'm not sure.

Goodluck all

I'm running EB with 3 gigs of RAM, just installed this fix and still saw dramatic improvement in my turn time! Thanks for the heads up!

I second that...

From the player point of view nothing.
It doesn't take away or add anything.
It just changes Client Ruler Implementation to more efficient.
EB will run faster.

Does this script update change anything functional (e.g. other rules how client rulers perform etc.) or is it indeed only an optimization to the code?

Though I have 2GB of RAM, I'm always interested in a reduced loading time, so I ask for some informations:help:

Client ruler script optimization RETROACTIVE
Updated 2008-05-13: Created.
The client ruler script has been bloated, and this optimization may decrease the wait for the AI factions' turns.
Download this file from the EB FTP.
Unpack into <RTW directory>/EB/data.

Sounds like they just streamlined the code. :)

so has anyone found out if its save game compatible? and also, is there a limit to how much RAM you can have? why cant u just buy RAM until ur computer starts to do things automatically or through your mind lol

hooahguy, you aren't the only one who loves his 2GB (actually 4-duo core!). still, this is neat. say, can you make a version of MAA's city mod in this form?

The script?

It is.

Normal pc's can take around 2-3 gigs of RAM, and I believe there are some pc's that can have a maximum of 4-5. It depends on your MOTHERboard.

Senshi
05-21-2008, 15:51
Nope. It depends on youre operating system.

If you have the common Windows XP 32bit, you are maxed at 3,2GB. Anything more in your computer will be ignored.

You need Vista or WinXP 64bit to have more than that supported.

Of course you also need the slots on your motherboard to stuff the RAM, but that usually never is the problem... ;)

And for the topic: I absolutely love it, now EB plays almost fluently! Such optimizations may seems simple, but I'm aware that exactly those often are very tricky and require a lot of cleverness and the right idea to improve such processes, many thanks for the efforts!:2thumbsup:

How do I install the fix? I have downloaded it, but where does it go, and do I need to delete my origional EBBSscript file? When I downloaded it, I put it into 'show_me' but the new script is in another file called 'show me' (this other show me' file is within my origional 'show me' file). What do I do?

Korlon
05-21-2008, 20:47
Overwrite it.

Baktrion Agema
05-21-2008, 20:52
Cheers. What do I do about the fact that it comes in a 'show me' folder of its own? Or did you meen overwrite the old 'show me' folder? Please be patient I'm no computer expert lol.

not exactly easy to add RAM to your laptop though is it lol

oh and thanks for the save game info

Baktrion Agema, what i usually do is just copy the seperate files within the downloaded folders, then overwrite them, rather than overwritieng the wntire folder. And make sure you have a full back up of all the files your going to overwrite incase something goes wrong

Adding ram to a laptop shouldn't be any more difficult than adding it to a desktop. As for changing out processors though... ehhhh.

I have installed the fix and cut my in-between turn waiting times by about 2 thirds (I can no longer get a cup of tea between turns I have to wait for battles now), thanks very much!

I dont think i will have to worry about this, i have around 300gb spare and around 4 ram, the waiting times are short and i am happy, hope it helps anybody with any problems.

Unfortunately there seems to be a client ruler bug associated with this fix :(

No it's not the bug was always there, we're looking into ways to fix it. The error showed before and after sometimes randomly... it's really strange but the fix does not alter the way it worked before it uses the same principles only the code is optimized.

QuintusSertorius
05-25-2008, 12:49
Funny because I like many others had client rulers working pefectly fine until I installed the optimisation script. Since then my old ones still work (as in haven't stopped working), but I can't create new client rulers without getting Interloper.

Try the new one (up a small hour ago). It's not been tested extensively and is not retroactive, but we need people to try it out so we can make it a permanent one.

QuintusSertorius
05-26-2008, 02:21
Sorry to hear it's not retroactive. I've got a good thing going with switching my scripts around, so I'll stick with that.
