I have an insane roommate from Iran at my boarding school. His biggest problem is that he is 24/7 on the phone. First term he was ok, second term he was absolutely annoying, shouting on the phone all the time, third term, now, he calmed down, but this week he cracked down.

He exploded with the talking and last night he was shouting like hell, cried for 2 hours without a stop and he was like going ballistic all over the place.

He says it's because of his 2 best friends - his girlfriend and his best friend. They always make him angry.

But it makes me wary. I'm starting to be scared he might do something stupid, as last night he gave me the phone numbers of his family and he wrote something on a piece of paper, and he continually repeated "If something happens...". This morning he confessed that he wanted to kill himself last night.

I told the teacher last night, and he thanked me for saying. He will tell the director of boarding and the head of our house maybe to take some actions.

But my problem is, should I tell them about the thing he said to me last night and what he gave me?

Please help!

Yes, you should update them as soon as you can.

The chap may well be just blowing off steam, but threats of self-harm should always be taken seriously.

You don't want to be wishing you had done something should the worst happen - and if he is just being dramatic, an encounter with the impact of his behaviour via the school authorities may calm him down in the future.

Thanks Banquo. He just told me he took the Swiss army knife last night and wanted to slit his throat but he didnt. And he started rambling if he dies, his family will kill his best friend.

Im downright scared.

Yikes. That's a hell of a situation you're in, edyz.

Yes, you should absolutely inform a teacher or other staff member of what your roommate told you. As BG pointed out, you don't want to be in a situation where you end up regret not having said something just in case he does actually try to hurt himself. Believe me, you don't want that kind of guilt.

Sounds like a nutcase. Tell the school ASAP.

Agreed, tell the school everything and make sure they realize that you're very serious.

Dude, just punch him hard, once, to give him some perspective. It sounds like he's a teenage drama queen, so treat him the same. As of telling someons, definitely do, and ask them to move you in with someone else while you're at it. You need your sleep at night.

I told the school, and they said they will keep an eye on him. The entire school knows he's 24/7 on the phone, so the fact that he was shouting ain't news for anyone.

He calmed down right now, but he's still talking, even after he said he won't talk any more.
