A teenager is facing prosecution for using the word "cult" to describe the Church of Scientology.

The unnamed 15-year-old was served the summons by City of London police when he took part in a peaceful demonstration opposite the London headquarters of the controversial religion

The fact that the youth was 'strongly advised' to remove the sign, rather than just ordered to shows that the coppers were on shaky ground. That he argued, whilst ill-advised maybe, and got arrested is preposterous. If he is 'advised' to remove the sign surely he can state his case! Also I don't know how he came up with that quote from a court case, but surely that alone is enough to prove how stupid this is.

As for Scientology being a cult... Swedishfish is right about it being a business, but at the same time I'd agree that it is a cult. Thats just my personal opinion though. I apologise in advance if this offends anybody, but I remember an instance in my final year at my (catholic) high school, me and a friend argued (properly, as in a debate) that all organised religion is cultish on some level. That we got away with it was due to the fact our religion teacher, while a very devout catholic, was very progressive with regards to free speech and opinions, and allowed a lot of debate among the class.

I knew they were ******-up, not that they mingled in politics and the judiciary. So the CPS said there was no crime committed , no incitement no insult , in fact they noted the same slogan is a regular feature on other London protests .
