I've taken Pura in my Pahlava campaign. Does anyone know if the cloning facility only becomes available once I undertake the Pahlava Government Reforms? And how much does it cost? Dunno if I should spring for that mine in Karmana or wait to get the cloning facility?

I have reported this bug a couple of months ago in the internal forums, and it looks very weird.

Try and see what happens when you move_character.

ah^^

it doesn't matter if there is one more general in town^^
just 100 dead men more ;)

but this could be interesting^^
interesting to know WHY he was cloned ;)

WT?!

well, I guess the guy was so awesome, AS developed a secret project to clone their best generals..otherwise, I dunno the cause.

I always knew that they had the technology! And they called me crazy... the one that who laughs last... who was it? Oh yeah, is the last one to laugh... or was it...

I looked for Artaxias and he's only mentioned once in descr_strat so either through some weird coincidence you had a general that got the same name and portrat... or if more generals have that issue it's like descr_strat got executed twice, it may be related to switching factions without quitting EB first, like starting a campaign with a faction and then resuming your saved game with another... or the other way around...

As I said, I reported this weird bug a few months ago in the internal forums. Perhaps this could be your answer?

I can't believe I conquered Pura and did not notice it. I'll have to actually look more closely at enemy characters from now on... might find more clones. :beam:

I have read that the Seleucids had a habit of adopting successful military tactics... maybe cloning was one of them. :dizzy2:

yes I have, but why? Oo

yes I have, but why?So we can try to understand what's happening and perhaps even fix the problem.

Atilius, probably he just loaded the descr_strat twice, making the guy appear twice (e.g by loading another campaign and so activating the script twice).

Atilius, probably he just loaded the descr_strat twice, making the guy appear twice...I've seen this sort of thing before. I believe I know roughly what's going on and would like to confirm my suspicions. Your speculation doesn't explain why the two otherwise identical characters have bodyguards of different sizes. I think I can.

I believe we have someone here that doesn't quit get the EB forums at the .org.

Why the hell would he do such a thing in the first place? Such a thing adds nothing to what we're trying to fix here in the first place.

Weird thing is, it looks like the second guy was loaded as a client ruler.

The same thing happened to me on several occasions, when a Seleucid general was a Client ruler (for instance in Asaak) and therefore NOT a family member and NOT with standard bodyguard (for instance Babylonian spearmen). It seems to me, that under certain conditions the game just creates a unit of Somatophylakes Strategou (standard FM bodygard) for him, thus making him appearing twice... Why? I have no idea, though...:shame:

@Hax - Anyway, the client ruler was the FIRST guy, while the FM (Somatophylakes) is spawned only afterwards.

They both aren't client rulers in the first place. Look at the government type.

How the hell do you think Alexander conquered such a vast territory in a few years? Obviously his Macedonian army was just composed of Alexander clones!

Some 2000 years later, they found that out, and provoked the Metal Gear Solid series (Where Liquid Snake tells Solid Snake that all the soldiers in MGS 1 are his clones. :P)

Ibrahim

speaking of which, what exactly causes it? and is that fixable, the cloning that is in EB...I don't want to fight 2 hannibals...

in the meantime:

"the persian paul revere rides through persian countryside. he cries out:

"THE CLONES ARE ATTACKING! THE CLONES ARE ATTACKING! TO ARMS! TO ARMS!THE CLONES ARE ATTACKING...""

okay guys.... one moment ;)

...

...

yes I also recognised that they both rule the town...
the most weird thing is, that they have different bodygaurds...
so it can't be a real clone xD ... maybe... a twin xD
or the AS had a great fight just with this general...;)

okay here is the link ;)

Thank you, I'll have a look at it as soon as I can.

This guy was originally the client ruler of the settlement of Asaak. Earlier, there was a problem with the few characters who started out as client rulers, which probably explains why he doesn't have the client ruiler trait.

In most of the cases I've seen, this sort of duplication can occur when a named character who is not originally in the family tree marries into the family. That appears to be what happened here: he's married Pherenike, daughter of Antiochos Syriakos. For some reason, these marriages appear to confuse the game engine. The fact that the guys are identical except for the size of their bodyguards is due to the fact that the original client ruler had a bodyguard of Babylonian heavy infantry, while the duplicate "family member" character has the standard AS bodyguard of heavy cavalry.

I'm afraid I don't know what can be done about this, but since he's fairly old both of him should die in a few years, which should take care of the problem.

Hi Atilius, thank you for a nice (and when I am thinking of it in fact an obvious) explanation! :2thumbsup:

The mystery thus solved it is clear now: the two guys are not CLONES, but in fact a serious case of SCHIZOPHRENIA in very developed stage that led into total split of personality, even in the physical sense.

Therefore it is not a bug, but a feature that nicely represents the schizophrenic situation of a local officer who just married into the royal family - he simply cannot make up his mind whether he still could hang around with his old buddies from the garrison (Babylonian Heavy Inf) or rather being seen with his new friends - the Seleucid golden youth (Somatophylakes).:beam: Ultimately it leads to the consequences that have puzzled us for so long:clown:

Well Hax, they were in fact client rulers, were they not? I demand a beer from you as satisfaction! :whip:

I would love to, but I have get stuck in the old one which was closed while I laid drunk in the wine-cellar... So I think that it would be nice and appropriate if Hax send me a beer (I am fed up with wine for a while now) through that narrow ceiling window...:idea2:

I have 3 clones of one Epigenes, a Seleukid general and/or client ruler of Sardis. My game keeps crashing whenever I try to siege Sardis (I'm Pontos), likely due to the "Epigenes Affect". One of them was outside Sardis, which was invisible but nonetheless there. I promptly exiled him to Krete, and have the city permanently under siege repeatedly, though I'm gonna try to create some assassins to take them out, though I wonder if that would crash the game. And I can't upload a savegame as my internet is down and I'm at a school computer.

EDIT: Never mind about assassination. The assassins' only valid target in Sardis is my spy. Nope sir, there aren't any generals there. None at all....
