Playing as Romans, got to about 220.
Thing is, I dont think I've seen a single AI fleet yet other than a few pirates.
Bug?

I'm fighting Carthage ffs and still no ships!
Nobody else has seen this?

i think the question is: why would you want enemy ships?

I think that there are more than enough pirates to go around to have my fleets busy .. I really do not need other factions to start building fleets etc:no:
But I have seen the egyptians and greeks to build ships .. the largest egyptian fleet I saw had about 7-8 units in it .. do not remember exactly cause it was in v1.0 :egypt:

maybe u should try EB with alex or bi, appearantly the AI seems to use naval warfare more this these .exe's
I heard that in 1.1 factions use fleets as much as bi.exe in 1.0
with the BI, with the romans, i was invaded by half KH stack every 5 or 6 turns besieging Taras, until they ask for a cease fire after being defeated, and they start to invade again after a while. Also some Makedonia stack landed near Arpi, but it retreated in the navy the turn after for some reason (dont know why). As you conquer Sardinia, and Lillibeo, you will have some Carthaginian stack that lands there every 4 or 5 turns too. That's happen quite often and it's very funny the first times. So be ready with your navy and an army to sent to sardinia every tot of time, and keep an army ina fort near Lillibeo.

I got no prob at all. The Ptolemaioi even build a fleet of a single unit of Huge Poliremes (Nees Magistai), which btw kicked my navy's @$$ badly. And I mean VERY badly... Even landed units on Rhodos and taking it from me, while I could just watch them from a distance...

To be honest I noticed the lack of fleet action in my games - not using BI or Alex... but it did not bother me much... I care little for sea battles.
I can remember sending a spy to check out the baltic region and then i saw something which made me laugh - there were 4 fully stacked rebel fleets just on the coast, which I called 'Pirate Bay'
I dont know what sparks them on their journey but eventually i ended up fighting them off the coast of north spain - and after taking out 2 of the fleets my admiral was 5 stars and had 'legendary admiral' status.

I see them too in my campaigns. I usually play without the fog of war, so I frequently take a glipse of the ''pirate bay'', as you called it. Never seen them move, though. I remember in 0.81 that I actually found myself attacked by some ''pirte armada's'' sometimes, doesn't happen anymore. And God, I did enjoy getting my butt kicked by them:laugh:

I lowered the pirate spawn rate and now the amount of pirates and faction ships is about equal. I see a lot of Ptolemaic, Romani and Quart-Hadasth fleets, along with my Greek Armada.

I'm having this fantastic campaign as greeks at around 220 too, naval activity is fantastic. There's alot of traffic in the mediterranian, especially the east where the ptolis (betrayers!!) give me a hard time. They even invaded Salamis with their fleet which contained an army of around 3000 soldiers!!
I don't know but when I tried to install a minimod which didn't work out and I had to put a new installation on my ongoing campaign, I had the feeling that AI suddenly improved and became much more aggressive - might be not related, but it's certainly my favourite game since than..

Welcome to the boards Col.Kurtz!
I'm playing exactly the same game as you are, I think! :p
but I'm having trouble the chose where to expand now. I don't want to go Eastward because then I must give up my good defensive position to the Seleucids stacks coming my way every now and then.
And Westward... Well that would either mean cutting the trade with the Romans or the Carthies (which would cost me dear... I would have to disband a full army then) or attacking a giant Averni empire to gain but a few coastal cities...

I think my RTW AI has gone navy-mad.Every time I turn the fow off (before I exit the game) I see naval activity.I didn't even bother to take pics with all navies with troops on board, but here are some:

The KH navy got sunk the next turn, don't know where the army was from or where it was going;the first Carthaginian one took troops from Africa to Iberia;the second Carthaginian navy took reinforcements to Sicily to help in the war against Rome;the AS one went to Alexandria, but then returned and dumped the army back to Antiocheia - looked like they wanted to invade Aegyptus, but they have been at peace with Ptoleis forever;no idea what Ptolei navy was doing. Also, many times the AI just shoves some troops on a boat, and the next turn just puts them back again...seen that a few times with AS,Ptoleis, even Rome.
So there you go folks, concrete proof that naval activity for the AI can exist with RTW :beam:
BTW,how can I see what troops the AI has on board its ships?

Press F1 on the campaign map. Click on that question mark thing at the upper right I think it was. Then there might be something else you need to press. I don't remember, but you'll get it. Doing that will activate perfect_spy.

What about my manners!! Well after reading the forum quite a while and playing the game for endless hours I finally found the guts to enter this great forum: Thanks for the welcoming..
I've taken the western coastal citys (well only to put some decent client rulers in their for the sake of the Hellenes in that area) of minor asia since Halikarnos rebelled to me and I've gotten into issues with the Selukis for that anyway. Well and Pontos - I had to liberate Sinope, held it for over two dekades - but both of them ended their war between them and now I'm constantly under attack. Seleukis Even made peace with the Ptolis so they can concentrate on me..
But other than that, I don't really expand - just started an expedition for Seleuki capital - to give them a lesson (or maybe because I just read the Anabasis ;) - wanted to burn down every city on my way and then withdraw, but the general was killed in a battle at antiochia.
Now I have to wait for a new offspring of my familly - these adopted ones don't quite have it.
So in general I trie to play a balancing factor in this part of the world - preparing for the roman thunder wich is building up slowly in the east -
Thinking about taking Pella but the Maks have grown a bit quieter by now probably too busy with the Epirotes (my only direct neighbor I'm not at war with)
Maybe I should just do an AAR since it's really my most faved campaign so far
Well, tell me how you decided Mediolanicus and when you're at it could you show me a map of your campaign - like to see how the other nations are doing too..

I think you have to have some unit nearby (ships, spys whatever) otherwise their only indicated by question marks
- Nevermind - just read the first reply with that perfect spy thing -

Look here (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=101742&page=8) for the maps!
They should explain pretty much everything.
I killed the Maks fairly early though. They were getting beaten by the Epirotes so I killed them first, before the Epirotes got too big.
However, I've got a problem now. I wanted to start up EB, but once my campaign is loaded it CTD's after 5 seconds on the campaign map!!!??
I didn't fiddle with the files or anything and this afternoon the game was running just fine... Very strange... All I did since this afternoon was rebooting my pc and installing a Java update...
I hope it'll turn to normal tomorrow *fingers crossed*

Mmmh and my KH is lost I think!
I tried 6 times tonight and it keeps crashing after 5-10 seconds or so on the campaign map. I just tried to start a campaign with another faction and it works fine. I didn't change anything since I last played the game.
Does anyone know if it is possible for a savegame to go corrupt that suddenly?

Something might've happened when you saved the game. Got any backups?

yes, 2, one 3 turns prior and one 30 years prior.
The former crashes the same way, the latter I won't even bother too try out. I can start a new campaign then as well.

I had this too wizh my last KH-Campaign.. nothing would work, so I had to restart it - was a pretty hard decision, but this one is somehow so much better, now I keep like 6 savegames just to be sure. I just save over the one that's the oldest everytime I do (like every 2-3 turns)..
But I do hope, that you have more luck with yours!!

Thanks, mate. But I gave up. I couldn't get any live it.
I started a new campaign with the Casse.
It was a though decision. My KH campaign was just at a critical moment as you can see from my screens... But so be it.
Enjoy yours.
