Hello all, I appreciate the chance to participate in these forums, the days past of playing Medieval Total War are fondly remembered, it was so much fun!

I had the original Medieval Total War back in the day, and played it extensively. After a getting a new computer I installed it back , only to have many of the issues presented here with CTDs etc, trying all of the solutions and not getting any resolution, I let it sit for awhile.

I ran across the Medieval Total War Gold edition with the Viking Invasion and thought I would give it another try to see if a new copy might not solve my issues. I cannot seem to install the game, as it gives me an error about 2 bars into the installation about closing programs etc.

I did my best searching through the posts but didn't see anything like this so I am hoping someone can help me:

Error Code: -5005 : 0x80070017
Error Information:
>Kernel\KernelMedia.cpp (95)
>Kernel\KernelMedia.cpp (95)
>SetupDLL\SetupDLL.cpp (1494)
PAPP:Medieval - Total War - Gold Edition
PVENDOR:The Creative Assembly (this was the total war website)
PGUID:
$11.50.0.42618
@Windows XP Service Pack 2 (2600) IE 7.0.6000.16640

is what I get. Thank you for your time on this, I appreciate it.

Did you by it from a store or get it from the internet? That's a important thing for people to know if anyone wants to help you. -

If you got if of the Internet you might not have payed or something. that's all I can say from the info you gave.

Hey, thank you for the response, no I bought it brand new, its was a combo pack. I did read that that error might have come from a dirty disc, but I have cleaned it well and still no luck.

hm,...... let me think.

1 - you might have gotten a bad disc, like maybe not all the data or damaged inside. If it's that your screwed with that disc.

2 - I'm not sure it may be you're Pc is a slight possiblity. Or I'm not sure if i've read this right but maybe you haven't completly took of you're other game and that's why you can't put the gold eddition on.

Sorry if I wasn't as helpful if I wanted to.:embarassed:

Ok, thank you, I think its a bad disk, as I can't even copy it to the desktop for a desktop installation, I had it for about a year before I even opened it, so I guess I am out of luck. :(

I still have the old MTW discs, I might try to reinstall that one again just to see. I read some posts about deleting the MTW folder, which I have done, I am a little leary of messing with the registry, anyone have any tips on that for clearing out the old stuff?

Thank you again.

Have you uninstalled MTW, yet? Or did you just delete the folder?

Well, I tried to uninstall it from the MTW menu and also from Add/Remove programs, but both times gave me an error about a missing file, so I just deleted the file ( to the recycle bin) from the program list.

Well, basically at this point I know I cannot install the new Gold Edition becasue of the bad disk. I guess I need to know how to completely uninstall the older version of MTW to try to install it again, if that makes sense, sorry for all of the confusion, I appreciate your help.

No problem. Okay now let's see what I can do. Well have you tried reinstalling already after deleting it?

WAit!!!! On you're computer you may not be the Administrator. Only the admin can add/remove programs!!

Try that and if it dosn't work answer the first thing, please.

Sometimes computers do very odd things, such as my pc cant download things because the graphics are so bad, oh well...

Id say it is a problem with the installation, so the disk. It doesnt seem to have transfurred all the files

This all coming from a computer idiot of course:yes:

That's a possiblity to. But i'm hopeing it's just because he's not allowed to on his Pc. (he's not the admin)

Hey , yes it is XP and I am the adminstrator currently. On the plus side I was able to reinstall the original MTW and the patch with no issues, so I guess I will just have to try all the CTD fixes again :)

I put in a ticket at the Sega site about the dmaged disk, but I don't expect much to come out of it, but I figured I would try. Thank you all for your help on this, hopefully I can be playing in a bit :)
