not sure if this belongs the mod forum though.

in my last game, playing til almost end game i see rebels "building" structures like port, upgrades etc. (2nd level fort i think)

given that there's a tendency for faction AI not to touch certain rebel areas like scotland and ireland, what i do see is that the rebels are in fact building up rather well, say i can see like 6-7 units of highlanders in scotland alone (owned by the original rebel leader in scotland, brian of claire or something). (the start game only have 1-2 units of those).

which inevitably brings me back to my query, as of why ports under rebel factions are not considered "viable" trading areas.

especially with the current AI, most of the ports owned by faction AI are gone due to war attrition and as it is, most of my game as it progresses ended up have a lot of rebel lands (ports and without ports) and AI faction-owned lands with no ports.

which makes most of my games at end game really similar, with my lands still in good condition and the rest of the world in shambles and no trade partners generally.

If you where at war with the rebels & still have provinces adjoining theirs you will be at war with them for as long as your provinces adjoin theirs. The way to overcome this is to not border rebel provinces then you will not be at war with them
example The rebels had most of the french coast with ports. The only rebel province that adjoined any of my provinces was norway so I took norway now I can trade with all rebel provinces everywhere

ahh i see i see. i "used" to recall in an earlier game that i can trade with rebels.

but since i start so many games i kinda wonder if that was my imagination.s

thanks i will try clearing the rebel states then.

since i usually leave some as a buffer state sometimes..

Hmm, in my current game I cannot trade with rebels, even those I have never been to war with (eg. the Scots). I don't think that you can trade with Rebels.

All Rebels are treated as one Faction !!!

LongJohn stated that ... they are faction 0 (zero) ... meaning beeing at war with the Scots means your at war with every Rebelprovince until ... you no longer share any borders with Rebelprovinces.

Ah, I see now why I can't trade with them. However, having all rebels be in a single faction does not make the least bit of sense in terms of historical accuracy. Coding short-cut I guess... http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/frown.gif

How can you tell if you are trading with a certain port, rebel or otherwise? I thought all neutral or allied ports traded with you, if you had a trade route to them.

Wolfgrin:

When you go to your ecomomy parchment (the one with the coins) click on the name of your trading province. Another parchment will pop up on the left showing that province's trade routes individually, with the amount of florins gained per turn from each.

Thanks for the heads-up, Cart. I've been playing this game exclusively since it came out and (obivously) didn't know about that second parchment under the coins.
