I am an experienced EB player (1.5 years, I know this is nothing compared to most guys here, but it is embarassing to play that long and not to know the following). However, I don't know how to upgrade armour and weapons to gold. I saw that blacksmiths only upgrade them with +1. And I have achieved gold chevrons for experience, so I know this is not it. And I have seen it on armies in rebel cities. So how? Or is it impossible?
the ability to upgrade weapons and armor that high was removed...

What is the highest level of weapons and armor upgrade now available? 2 bronge chevrons?
Weapons and armor don't have chevrons. It's just a bronze upgrade.

Just out of interest, why are rebels still able to get gold weapon/armour upgrades then? Im sure its just to make them tougher, but it does mean some rock-hurlers have better armour improvements than a player's most elite troops.
or is this just a RTW thing that has nothing to do with EB?

Because we cant edit RTW.exe and this program is still using RTW mechanics to assign upgrades for units ( max level 3 ).

...when they spawn units in a settlement rebellion or in brigand spawns.

Just a question from general curiosity. When you guys say you can't change something as it is hardcoded does that mean it's literally impossible to change or that it may be possible but illegal?

both first and second.
I'm sure there is some crap they could never mess with; some of the other stuff though could be changed, just highly illegal if done so.

It is impossible to change because you would have to crack the RTW.exe. Nobody has done this because it is illegal. So both.

Just to be clear I wasn't trying to advocate cracking the RTW.exe. I don't know much about programming and was just curious, I thought it may be a mixture of both.
Even if CA allowed modders to crack RTW.exe, why bother? Everybody is working on EB2 anyway...
