Katapractoi Solution

Don't you just hate those heavily armed Byzantian katapractoi? If you do, and you are playing a muslim faction, then here is a way to gain advantage over them (and many other 'early' cavalry units!):

CAMELS.. they hate them!

Now I know to some this is common knowledge, but I read some people were having trouble with these units in 'early' games, so I posted this 'solution'. Ummm that wasn't very usefull was it.. Hmmm..

Erhm anyway.. I'll be testing units on Almohad Urban Militia next.. How innovative of me.. erhm.. right..

Arbalesters ... did you know not only do horses hates camels but they are ALLERGIC TO SHARP POINTY STICKS TOO! Especially ones that are fired at them at high rates of speed ...

I finally stumbled onto the way to easily defeat Kataphractoi in my Danish CG; all you gotta do is pin them down frontally with a unit of Feudal Sgts, while at the same time flank and rear charging them with hoards of armor-piercing Vikings...in a forest. Piece o' cake!

Ah yes, slowly but surely, the game's little secrets are being revealed to me! : )

But Wraith has a point. My post was meant to create a couple of reactions of the ones here posted. Whenever someone 'new' posts something that is considered 'common knowledge', some people can't keep their smart ass mouth shut. Let's all try to make the forum a better place by gently pointing common knowledge out to people instead of thumping their skull with our endless wisdom, as some here do.

muslim factions really do need to get to grip with the camels in the early years to deal with some of the horse archers/cavalry

found out the hard way how nasty spanish jinettes were until i started smacking them with camels which promptly tore them apart (note: it was the berber camels oddly enough i first started hammering them with by forcing them into melee)

as to the heavy stuff, well that's what the napatha throwers and the murabutin are for aint they?

if you want to counter a cav just use spearmen. The cheaper the spearmen is the better.

Horse unit that attacks a camel unit gets a -4 kill chance

Camel attacking horse gets +2 kill chance

Straight from page 54 of strategy guide.
