I'm playing Egypt and own all the map except for central europe, which is shared between Russia, the Swiss and the Italians. Anyhow, after years of staring eachother down across the borders, a civil war breaks out in the Russian Empire. I'm going to go off on a tangent here for a sec. If you are ever facing an enemy of equal strength, if you can maintain your economy, the size of your army and the loyalty of your generals, the enemy will almost always end up in a civil war at some point. Anyhow, so during this civil war they apparently decided it would be prudent to attack one of my territories. Fine, I outnumber them. Well the turn finishes and they just sit in my territory. I have 3 stacks in the territory and they just have a single stack in the same territory which I own--doing nothing. 5 turns go by and still nothing. I quit at that point for others reasons (I have been fighting an average of 4 loyalist rebellions for the last 45 turns...very tiresome). So anyone have any idea how/why this enemy stack can just sort of take up peacful residence within my territory? At some point I'll bribe them just to get rid of them, but its rather awkward and aesthetically unpleasing.

On another note, and so I dont get yelled at in another thread, how does one get to the advanced formations such as "scorpion". I somehow accidentaly brought up the menu but wasnt able to reproduce it.

I'm thinking its just a big army of pacifists which enjoy my empire wide profit expansion plan and have simply decided to migrate...with weapons

This is also a bug. What is happening is that for somereason MTW is showing the graphic for the army in your territory providence. When in reality it is sitting on the boarder too you or around in the gerneral area.

I have heard a few people mention this.

Fight Brave, lead well, die anohter day.

See, but I can click on the army and see its units, and I can also send an emissary to bribe it, so its not just the graphic.

Its ok though, Germans re-appeared and decided they werent fond of the Russians. And I've been rebellion free for 2 turns. Kind of like this factories, "Accident free for 5 days". It wont last, but anyhoo.

Oh, did I mention I have Rome, with a Mosque, 200% loyalty and an ever increasing Islamic following? It great http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

And can anyone tell me how to get the advanced formations (ie scorpion et al?)

You can see it before you start the battle. The icon is just on top of the left most unit icon in the bottom of the screen. Right click on the icon to bring up the list then left click to select the formation. It would take a few second for the new formation to completely form.

There are a few thing that may help you to avoid the loyalist rebel:

- Keep the army there for a few years. Large garrison is important in the first few years.
- Have your King close and connect to those provinces.
- Bring in some religious agents to calm down the peasants.
- Build Guard Tower.
- Lower the tax for those provinces for a few years.
