What's MTW compatible with? I have a Windows Vista and a Windows ME and it doesn't work on Vista but it sort of works on ME.
I know it works without any problems on XP. Not sure if that helps you out.
I believe it will work on either of those OS's. The main concern will be your video card/drivers. What video card do you have?

In Windows ME i have Intel Express. In Vista i know it definately won't work.
Yeah, Vista already has an unsavory reputation among Total War players, particularly those who like playing MTW and/or Shogun. Although for that matter, I've heard that some people have even had trouble getting Rome to run on it. :shame:
So yeah, ME is almost certainly your best bet. STW and MTW both ran just fine on my old PC (which had Windows 98 as its OS), and they both run on my current machine (which has XP) with no problems.
As drone said, most people's issues are related to the video card and/or its drivers....especially if the drivers are more recent. Do you know which driver version you're currently using for your Intel Express card?

I'm not sure what the driver is. RTW works on my Vista. MTW on ME works ok but the campaign map goes white after 10secs and battle don't work which is strange because it works on STW but the campaign don't work.
Well not sure about Vista but stay clear of the latest 8x series Nvidia cards as it really has isues with those.
Visata can't be the problem as I have Vista and experience no problems playing MTW/VI Gold
Can someone help me out?
I rarely venture out of the tavern's backroom, but a new PC made me reinstall this and have a bash. Alas I now have Vista and an ATI Radeon HD 2400 PRO and the damn thing is very tempremental.
I load it, and run it and it works for a battle, sometimes two, but sometimes doesn't start, and often crashes just after I finish a battle and go back to the campaign map (after the year end moves).
It's really annoying :(
So can someone confirm that basically you can't play MTW on a vista machine with an ATI card
Gah! Sorry Idaho. I forgot to reply before.
Just so I'm not assuming anything, have you checked out the Apothecary and/or tried the solutions in this sticky (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=79500)? Aside from the game sometimes having issues with newer video drivers, I've not heard of any particular problems with ATI cards.
Newer ATI drivers cause major problems with MTW, there are few solutions except trying different resolutions and reverting to older drivers. With Vista you're limited as there are no old enough drivers available so this is where you're stuck.

I chose my faction, difficulty, etc. it gets to the map loading screen when it hit full the game crashes saying theres a problem with MTW and must close down. I really want to play this so any links you guys can send Idaho and me?:help:

Anthony (and Darkvicer), have you tried the solution (in the sticky Martok linked to) concerning the replacement of the two campaign map files? That should really be the first thing to do, because on my bro's computer (nope, haven't got my own just yet), MTW: Gold was crashing when it finished loading the campaign map recently (the fact that eventually MTW: Gold wouldn't even load, as some people might remember me mentioning in an old thread, was down to the latest Nvidia drivers going all-out on my bro's computer and not just a particular game...). However, on replacing the files with the ones linked to in the sticky, hey presto, the campaign map worked just fine. On Nvidia 8600 drivers, nevertheless. I only have issues with the battlemap now (which I can't seem to resolve, but I'm going to improvise and use custom formations and the radar map to fight battles).
The battlemap issues can be resolved to an extent, though. Check post #166 in the following thread...

Oh, and those files you can replace to get the campaign map working - XL doesn't seem to mess with them, and neither does Tyberius' mod. Don't know about other mods. Means you can install mods over a game with the two files replaced, and not have to worry about the mod copying over them.
Gah, I totally forgot that solution Kaidonni, thanks for bringing it up. :2thumbsup:
Thanks for the advice folks. Still doesn't work. Ahh well..
