View Full Version : Using fleets for movement

Well, I'll be the first to admit, I'm a newb, I got the game 3 days ago, and I have a question. How can I move an army to an Island or costal province? For example, in my campaign (I'm the spanish), I've conquered the Almos, and I control all of western france, and suddenly, theres a rebellion in Genoa. So I see it as a good way to get a base of command right next to Italy (my next target, cuz I'm sick of their constant assassins). The problem is, the HRE is between me and there, and I have no idea how to get my guys to move by boat, and after that, how to invade from the sea. So any help would be much appreciated.

No problem, you must have a line of ships from the province with the army to the target province. Also, if you are at war with anyone there cannot be one of their ships in that line. With the line of ships in place, not moved into place on that turn, you can pick up the army and the target province will be a possible place to move. Hope I this helps and that I explained it correctly.

Also, you can't do an amphibious assault against a neutral or ally if their ships would blockade you if you were at war. This prevents first strikes against naval powers.
For instance, let's say that you're trying to take Egypt using an assault from Tripoli. That's two sea provinces away. You put your ships in both sea provinces.
Egypt is controlled by the Almohads (they really did a good job of conquering). They have a ship just north of Egypt. They're neutral right now.
Can you invade Egypt? Nope. Because you'd have to declare war to invade Egypt. And that would make their ship blockade your amphibious assault. So your preemptive strike can't be done.
You have to first wipe out their fleets. THEN you do your landing. Of course, with amphibious assaults, you generally have three or four provinces you can attack at once. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif
Also when you land you cant go back unless there is a port there. Sent my Heir on a suicide mission this way without knowing it....was a tuff lesson. When you win control of that territory build a port as fast as possible to allow a way back, if you need to get back.
