I am in the process of giving a usual spear weilding units (with no secondary weapons ie. hoplites) a secondary weapon. I have sucecessfully changed the EDU, and have givin them the correct skeletons in the DMB. Heres my question, when the spear weilding unit is ordered to attack a unit they ditch the spears and go straight to sword (not what i want). Is there a way to make the units only use their primary weapon (spear) unless I alt-right click their enemy?

Make swords their primary and spears their secondary weapons, like some elite Hellenistic units. This way, by calt-licking you will get spears. With normal clicking, you will get swords unless a slodier of yours is knocked down. He will then swich to spear again.

Edit :: By using Fanatic's phalanx mod, and adding phalanx as an ability, will keep them in a hoplite phalanx formation, but like when a phalangi(sp?) is flanked some units are dueling with thier sword.

this can't be done so easily, primary and secondary weapon are defined first in the model files and then in the DMB. If you swap the skeletons, you'll just see a spear with the sword animation and a sword with the spear animation.

no...this in an RTW bug that happens when using the overhand spear animation. this is why most mods remove the secondary weapon for units using this animation
