Has anyone tried reducing the walking speed of foot units?
I think (and am going to try it tonight) that reducing the speed will make missile units more effective (especailly with an increase in the number of missiles they carry (see other thread)). It should also make cav units better as flanking would be easier.
I am going to make the Spear/Pike units slowest (seeing as they move in perfect formation) with MAA and other armoured units also getting a penalty.
Units like peasents/clansman (light armour) will be kept at current levels.
Sounds like a good idea (lotsa work though). Let us know how it works.

So far so good. Spent half an hour adjusting movement speeds yesterday, and combined with more ammo for "pure bow" units it seems very balanced. Still needs some tweaking, but this is what i have done so far:
1) All foot units with 3 or 4 armour points have been reduced to 4/8/9 (walking, running, charging)
2) All foot units with 5+ armour have been reduced to 3/7/8.
3) Longbows carry 48 arrows instead of 28, all other "pure bow" units (e.g desert archers etc) 40 arrows. X-bow units have been kept at 28.
What i have noticed is that missile units get off an extra 2/3/4 shots before the foot unit can close in. Also the AI tends to make its units run a lot sooner, meaning they are more tired by the time they reach my troops.
When attacking you really notice the extra damage from missile fire and it makes the experience a lot more tense, especailly when attacking a up hill.
One things for certain there is no MAA rush!

Thank heavens we have people like you out there. I love this game but with all the bugs and other annoying experiences I am getting a bit fed up. Your little patch sounds great and I look forward to the completion. Five stars to you for effort and dedication in getting this game right!

I didn't write this, but its what i used to learn how to change the basic functions of units. (Big thanx to the author)
Its a credit to the developers that such changes can be made and undone (back up the file!) with ease.
It doesn't make a massive difference to the gameplay, but i think its noticable.
