I'm American, so I don't get it. Why is it ironic, and why are you sorry?

Grandmother campaigns against gun crime after her son is shot.
She is stabbed to death by her grandson.

Irony as a gun protestor gets stabbed and sorry as its not really a laughing matter.

No one said it was funny. Merely ironic.

I see. Thanks.

Ironic, to me (an admittedly irony-impaired guy) would be a gun-rights/knife-rights person being stabbed/shot, rather than an anti-gun/knife crusader.

But her being stabbed by her grandson does seem a little weird. And certainly tragic, in a Classical Greek-theatrical kinda way.

Or an anti-gun/knife activist being saved by a gun/knife, its still slightly ironic i think, just not as clear cut.

It's ironic in the sense that while focusing her attention on campaigning against one tool of violence, Mrs. Regan overlooked the tool that would ultimately do her in. Also in the sense that while her campaign began as a result of her son's passion, it ended as a result of her grandson's action.

It's not as blatantly ironic as a gun supporter being killed by a gun or an anti-gun activist being saved by one, but is ironic nonetheless.

At least mothers against guns do campaign against illegal guns. They are the acceptable face of the gun control lobby, unlike gun control nutwork who would move on to working on banning pea shooters if they managed to get all guns banned.

The irony, I guess, is that her death shows that bad people* are the fundamental problem. Although that is not in itself a reason to let bad people have guns.

*who may be worse than they otherwise would be because of their environment

Now I'm confused. So is it now the case that knives kill people? Or am I being a tad ironic?

Sad business btw.

Heh. Imagine.

"Future suicide bomber killed by AIDS"

Or maybe the title should be

"If you understand the irony, you get a cooky" :2thumbsup:

Guns don't kill people, rappers do.

Personally I'm against the rampant use of the ban stick our government seems to think is necessary. Take banning knives and swords for example, a miniscule minority of the population commit crimes with them while the vast majority keep them and never commit any crimes with them and yet our government wants to ban them for everyone??????
