View Full Version : CTD on Saka's turn
In my Romani campaign, the year is 249 and I'm getting a CTD during Saka's turn. I've tried turning on and off the campaign script during the turn, but still crash. I have downloaded and installed all the fixes.
If it helps, I use City mod and have done some edits to the EDU to alter some unit values and edits to the regions file to make boats recruitable in all places with tradeports.
So can anyone help me? I think that this could be down to a similar issue in 0.81 in which Saka sometimes crashed because they tried to recruit a unit classed as mercenary, or something on the lines of that. Or maybe even just the rebellion CTD.
@ dumbass: just upload the game right here. the EB team encourages that so that they (or some other EB expert), can take a look at it. its usually some problem in the script or sth.
sorry, I didn't mean to insult you-I meant to refer to you directly XD (that name is confusing)

Heh, it's no insult.
It could be a rebellion CTD, and you should check whether there are any cities about to rebel and make sure they don't. See the frequent issues sticky.
I tried to do that, but I'm not actually able to see, because it shows a ? instead of the unrest sign. How would I be able to see? Use the perfect spy cheat? How would I do that?

press F1 and click on the ?
Also, you'd be able to see the pitchfork symbol if it was about to rebel, as opposed to riot.
I checked, and it showed that there were no Saka settlements revolting. They all had very high public order. Could it be the mercenary unit problem I mentioned?
I find it somewhat hard to believe, but I guess it's possible. Crashes connected with units usually happen when doing battle with them though.
It could also be whichever 2-3 factions come after the Saka in the turn sequence.
Oh, and you can try to teleport over a unit and smack around their stacks to see if it makes any difference.
I do remember that in 0.81 there was a bug where one of the recruitable units for Saka was listed as Mercenary which resulted in a crash whenever it was recruited. I believe it was in that desert bowl place.
How do I teleport an army? The cheats given on cheat sites are quite vague.
See the frequent issues and workarounds for how to use it. Ask a bit more specifically if it's unclear.
I ended turn again, and this time it got to the arverni and crashed, so it could be a problem with them. I checked all their settlements and possible revolt-to-them settlements but they weren't in revolt.
The only settlement I can find with the pitchfork in it, is the settlement of Alexandreia-Ariana. It's on 75% disorder, so doesn't that mean the next turn the revolting will stop? I've tryed reducing the population to 400, but it still remains at the same disorder level. And I have no idea how to teleport a diplomat over there.

So yeah, which part of teleporting is unclear?
Sorry about that. How would I go about teleporting Cotta (The guy you start with) around? What would his name be typed as? And what would I type for the character name of a diplomat? Something along the same lines as for a roman general? Also, when I typed the co-ordinates in, it said co-ordinates not found, even though they were genuine.
I tried this command move_character Caivs avrelivsCotta 321 179
Which gave me co-ordinates not found.
Thanks for the help.
When you get "coordinates not found", you have successfully written his name and made the game recognize him. However, the coordinates you entered are invalid.
You may get the coordinates where you want to go to by: Write show_cursorstat in the console (don't press enter), then point the mouse where you want to go and press enter to apply the command. The console will output the coordinates.
You cannot teleport to sea, cities or impassable terrain.
Yup, I did the show_cursorstat thing and got two co-ordinates. I have tried it on several flat terrain places but when I use the co-ordinates in the move_character command, it just says coordinates not found or destination tile invalid. I typed in the command as such: move_character Pvblivs clavdivsNero 319 133
Is that how you correctly type in the co-ordinates?
Edit: I tried teleporting the diplomat one step away from where he was standing (in italy) and it ended up teleporting him all the way to mauretania, even though I typed in the exact co-ordinates show cursorstat gave me.
The coordinates are written x, y, note the comma. Anyway, origo is in the lower left corner.
Using the comma makes no difference. I still get teleported to mauretania when I want to teleport a step a way. And I get the destination tile not found when I want to teleport to Alexandreia-Ariana
When I type show_cursorstat, I get: pos 319,133,
The character's name is Pvblivs clavdivsNero
Could you tell me what to type in the get him to successfully teleport to the correct position?
Also, what is origo?
Origo is the 0, 0 coordinate for a graph, and in this case it is map coordinates instead. But nevermind.
If cursorstat gives you the wrong information, trial and error is your friend. Got too far to the west? Increase X. Got too far in the north? Decrease Y. Rinse and repeat.
You cannot teleport into a city, only next to it.
I meant I was trying to teleport to the area around Alexandreia-Ariana.
It seems that the co-ordinates I type in just don't reflect to where the person is teleported to. For example When I tried to teleport the diplomat to 80, 133 he was teleported to 0, 80. I've tried all sorts of co-ordinates which just don't teleport me anywhere, when they should. Show_cursorstat could be wrong by a few co-ordinates, 80-0 is quite a big error. The move_character command must be buggered. I'll probably have to start a new game. Thanks for the help.
Hey wait, you seem to have forgotten to put the character name in hyphens ("). It could misconstrue your last name as the X coordinate (and finding gibberish, replacing with 0).
I tried putting the name in hyphons, but that doesn't work. It just says character not found.
Then I suggest you remove the clavdivsNero (or possibly replace it with Romanvs). You must use the hyphens to make the game recognize the name correctly (as seen with the X coordinate being seen as the Y one).
Hey, it actually worked! Thanks a lot, now to find the problem. I gave pahlav Alexandreia-Ariana but the game still ctds. I'm going to try bashing around some saka armies.
Alright, I've managed to narrow it down, and the game is actually crashing on Makedon's turn. I've also managed to get past the ctd by forcing the makedons to give me all their settlements.
Alright I narrowed it down to Mytilene, and this is when things got weird. It turns out that there were duplicates of the makedonian faction heir in the city, probably causing the ctd. As soon as I FDed the town off them, the duplicates both stepped out and then disappeared. You could still click on them and view them though. I then found out that the governor of the town (When owned by me) was the exact same guy! Except there was no unit card of him! Triplets! I gave the settlement back to the makedonians, and the nonexistant general stepped outside with 5 apeulethroi. They all then disappeared. There are now only five units of apeuleuthrio in the invisible stack and the three identical generals have all vanished off the map.
Interesting and fatal bug. I think it needs further investigation. I'm just worried that there's going to be another ctd when the makedonian faction leader dies and then one of the three vanished faction heirs will have to become faction leader. Anyway thanks for all the help.
Well, the save game has altogether stopped working now. I played on from where I got past the crash for about 10 years, where I suffered another end turn ctd. However upon attempting to reload the savegame, the loading bar goes to the full and then it ctds. You can hear the campaign music starting to play. I think that the duplicate bug just broke the savegame. The autosave does not work either.
1.1 seems to be quite more unstable than 1.0, with the arise of this new bug. Could you guys look into fixing this bug? Thanks.
Again it seems the client rulers are screwing things up. Atilius has been trying for a long time to get to the bottom of this, but has failed. I don't suppose you started the campaign with the potential client ruler fix by any chance?
Yeah, I used the potential fix. But why would a client ruler script cause family members to be duplicated?
The client rulers seem to be duplicated when they are adopted/married into the family. Then they have one unit of their proper, regional bodyguards, and also get another bodyguard with the faction default unit. The game can't cope and will crash whenever they're involved in pretty much anything.
I don't really understand why the old 1.0 script can just be used. That worked flawlessly and did not have many visible differences to the new one.
It cannot be used, precisely because it does not have many visible differences. It has the same flaws.
Ahh alright. Well I hope you fix it! :2thumbsup:
