u mean make and upgrade trade outposts? or make alot of allies? im a warmonger, so i usually have no allies.

Yes, upgrade your trade posts. You need to create a trade network of ships, but if your a warmonger you'll have much problems maintaining your network.

If money's an issue then build cheaper, weaker ships for use in relatively safe waters and deadlier, more expensive ships for potentially hostile waters. When things get hot you really need a capable navy that can break enemy naval blockades of trade heavy coastal provinces.

depends if you are playing for world domination or glorius achievements. ive never had more than 7000 florins. ive had -50000 florins a turn though. that was interesting. I won that game and had -3000000 florins at the end after conquering everything

I have made about 12000 florins A turn in my current game. That was clear and free after expenses.

I had a pretty decent trade route and a bunch of good providences including constinople, egypt, all of spanish Providences, all of africa.

Best earnings I've had was with the Turks when I controlled everything from Egypt to Contantinople, was at peace with everyone except the HRE, and had ships in every body of water in the mediterranean.

I dont know exactly how much cash I got per turn, but it is the year 1230 now (started in Early) and I have about 500k florins (and keep in mind that Hvy Jannisaries cost almost 1k a unit... and I have plenty of them).

Worst faction to play money-wise are the Polish I think, takes a while to build up a good economy with them at any rate.

One impressive trade-story: As the Danes once, I controlled skandinavia+livonia+lithuania and the british isles, and I was making (with boats in each and every watery area and also lvl 3-4 merchants in all my provinces that supported them) above 25K a turn gross. That was about 12 net, considering I didn't had much of an army to support.

Ten thou a turn I think was the most ... but ... then I went into "kill everyone else" mode and ... well ... that ended.

have a ship in every sea to maximize income...upgrade your merchant as much as possible...

in my present campaign, constantinople is bringing in around 5000 florins per turn alone. Add some other well earning provinces and voila 20k...keep your armies to a reasonable size and you will have a decent income every year. At the moment I have 10k a year, because I am building up my army.

I`m playing the Spanish and I have ships in any region and conquered mostly provinces with trade-goods (not Constantinople but Tripoli is even better after Marco Polo returns). I`m earning 30k a year and pay 10k for armies. It`s early 1300 now and my cash is now 1.5M, guess I should start dominating now...

1.5! yep the name of the game is to build up your coffers and then build massive armies and get yourself into debt http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif It may seem like a rush thing but its fun trying to keep your empire alive while building those massive coffers

OK, I`m more of a defensive player, I usually wait quiet long before I attack former allies. I`m a peacefull ruler!!!
All right maybe I`m just lazy.

I'm impressed..................are you all playing on easy mode. Or am I missing something here??

Rosacrux

I think you are indeed missing something... I play exlusively on expert and after the first stages of a campaign (well... maybe even the first 4-5 decades = until I have a trade network up and running) I amass incredible amounts of money, in the range described by the other nice gents above.

Fearless its all about not going to war till later on in the game and setting up as many trade routes as possible, the english are ideal for this, Get your ships as far as constantinople and your in the money

and try to get your hands on some good money making provinces...
those that have 3 tradable goods:
for instance, constantinoble, flanders, sweden, portugal...

they really make some serious cash.

AH!...........I see my problem.......I'm playing the Turks who have no coastline so straight away I'm at war with either the Byz. or Egypt. Maybe I'm stretching myself to much and should try a faction with a large coastline, sandy beaches and green rolling hillside, Butterflies....WHo-ooops got carried away there!!

Thanks for the tips battle hardened vets!.

At the end of this campaign, I have conquered all but three provinces.

Total income per turn: 40800

Total expenses per turn: 38500

I have an enormous army, and with the Sicilians being enemies, there was (is) no reason to have trading ships.

There is still a significant amount of in-house trading, not sure how much, but I am sure it is in the thousands per turn.

my first campaign, english on normal, I conquered western europe and, without trade, I was raking in about 20k florins a year.

Income gets alot lower when you up the difficulty and bigger garrisons are needed, imo.

I'm playing the polish now, poor poor poor, fun though... so long as my alliances hold.

I like playing the english. Takes about a century to finish off the french, what with the pope interfering after every battle http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

But once you've finished the french and secured the british isles you've got enough farm/mine money to take Italy and Spain with ease.
