Topic explains everything. :beam:
Any recent love movies you would recommend? Something like Good Luck Chuck, the idea only, as the movie was a bit bad.
I can't think of anything recent -- any decent ones I've watched you've probably already seen. That said, the list of romantic films that I can sit through without wanting to throw up would include Notting Hill, Love Actually, and What Women Want.
I don't know that it really counts as a "love movie" per se, but I would definitely recommend Stranger That Fiction. I enjoyed the chemistry between Maggie Gyllenhaal and Will Ferrell (and no, I can't believe I just typed that either ~ ).

There are no good love movies. Only Love Making. My Wife made me sit through two and half miserable hours of Sex and the City, and I got nothing in return so now I'm pouting like a spoiled child.

Something's gotta give
It's a romantic comedy and normally I loathe those, but Diane Keaton and Jack Nicholson are divine.

Love Actually. I must've seen it at least 7 or 8 times and I still don't hate it. Quite the opposite. :2thumbsup:

Ha seen that. It was incredible, especially when Jack Nicholson was in the hospital in the beginning. :beam:
Said it before and I'll say it again - beware The Notebook.
Mrs. Beirut watched it solo one night and came to bed an absolute wreck. I mean devastated. My buddy's wife watched it and she also fell to pieces. I would classify it as a love movie as well as a nuclear weapon to launch on your woman if she's getting out of hand. After the movie she'll be clinging to you like velcro asking forgiveness for things she never even did. (As well as forgiving you for everything you actually did do.)
Love & Sex- I suppose. That's one of my gf's favorite movies. And I randomly enjoyed it haha. More like a romance comedy or whatever it's called.

Always rather liked City of Angels.

That Chuck movie sounds like a romantic comedy. Not really my genre, but in it, I liked Sleepless in Seattle. And Notting Hill. Love Actually is great too. Costume drama meets romantic comedy: Molière (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0796335/) - reviews weren't that great, but I really enjoyed it.
For pure romance, call me mad, but I really like Titanic. :embarassed:
Also, Jane Austen adaptations. Don't watch them as a movie! You need BBC miniseries. Sense and Sensibility and Pride and Prejudice have great modern versions. Perfect to watch with girlfriends
A bit more artistic:
Une liason pornographique (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0204709/). Erm...that title serves a plot purpose. :sweatdrop:
My Summer of Love (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0382189/). I saw it the other day, I thought it was really good.

It paints members of the opposite sex not as normal human beings, but as lust objects, persons without backstories, or personalities, or independent feelings. They exist only from the moment to walk into the screen. And they only exist for their sole purpose, their personalities being reduced to that purpose - 'Mr. Big', 'Mr. thirty seconds', 'Mr such-and-such peculiar preference'.
Just because women are a bit more refined and less direct doesn't make their 'pr0n' any more interesting:
Busty shop clerk, enjoys doing men within twenty seconds of them walking into her shop.
Adam, succesful fashion reporter, enjoys it in hip *frontroomcensorship* style.
Not that I mind. I mean, fair enough and good for them. It's just that, SitC is best left for women to watch on their own, or with girlfriends. You can't win by watching it. Leave it to them

Casablanca, surely?
Edit-Didn't notice the recent qualifier in the OP. Hmm. A Very Long Engagement is a charming film about the power of love, although I'm not sue I'd class it as a romance as such.

I would strongly recomend Becoming Jane.:2thumbsup:
I'll second Becoming Jane. I can handle chick flicks when they are period pieces, and faithful to the period. That way my brain can engage with it as a historical film rather than a romcom. Check out the BBC's versions of Jane Austen for very highbrow chick flicks.
Any man who likes Love, Actually needs to take a long, hard look in the mirror. Do you also enjoy musical theater? Do you watch a lot of Bravo TV? Is your house/apartment tastefully decorated? Are you a very good dancer?
Just askin'.
The Hot Chick, The New Guy, Old School

I'll agree with period pieces as well. Paying attention to the historical aspects makes it easier to swallow the romantic stuff.
I know these are supposed to be rhetorical questions, but I just can't help myself....

Some, actually. I cheerfully admit to enjoying The Music Man, The Sound of Music, and Moulin Rouge. Indeed, I'm probably the only heterosexual male in the Western Hemisphere that will admit to owning a copy of the latter. ~D
Do you watch a lot of Bravo TV?
Only when reruns of The West Wing are on. Otherwise, no. ~;p
Is your house/apartment tastefully decorated?
Only if numerous stacks of books, Lego space sets, and classic Transformer figures posed all over my bookshelf count as "tasteful". :clown:
Are you a very good dancer?
Gods, no. I'm as uncoordinated as every other white American male. :laugh4:

Nope, you have company.
Beirut is right about The Notebook, but it's entirely a chick movie.
Casablanca goes without saying, but my favourites of the romantic genre (and I make no apology for being a sucker for this stuff) are:
Somewhere in Time
Joe versus the Volcano
Shakespeare in Love
Bridges of Madison County
Breakfast at Tiffanys
Robin and Marion (look it up - it's a real gem)
and Emma (the Gwyneth Paltrow version).
And yes, Lemur, I dress immaculately.
According to my wife, anyway.

Robin and Marion (look it up - it's a real gem)
seconded - this was a very pleasant surprise when I saw it for the first time.
Among other favorites would be
Harold and Maude (I assume that one qualifies)
The Piano
The Remains of the Day
Probably missed something...

I'll have to go with Crouching Thai Girl, Hidden Salami. That or Bend Over Like Beckham.
I'm a sentimental type.

I was going to watch that, but my schedule was just too tight. At the last second, I had to shaft it because of work. It's really a terrible plight when one is unable to go down [and find a movie] to fufill his girlfriend's wishes.
