My generals all seem to be losing loyalty "feels unappreciated". What can I do to stem this before they all desert?
Sometimes using them in combat will make them lose the trait or get the "feels appreciated" trait, especially if you take a settlement.
It always seemed much easier to me to get bad traits than good ones for some reason. :sweatdrop:

Adoptions are one of the causes for this trait appearing... If one of your Family members adopts a second general after the first, the first adoptee has a chance to get the "Feels unappreciated" trait...
One way to go back is to send him to battle with even or slightly uneven odds (either in favour or against him...)
And one of the major causes is that if you have faction leader with over 3 dread, all with over 3 chivalry have high change of getting "feels unappreciated" and if faction leader with over 3 chivalry, all dreadful have high change to get unappreciated trait. likewise if Faction leader has +3 chivalry all chivalrious will eventually get feels appreciated.
There“s also something about keeping high command generals/family members in low-level castles/settlements and low command people in high-level castles/settlements
Hmmm.... So, if i go about taking advantage of crusades to get multiple generals with chiv upgrades then ship a few back for population boost (+ those chiv helmets look very nice, no?:knight:)
...but my faction leader's usually a dread one due to assasinations/subterfuge/sabotage (build up a few assasins to wipeout a small factions family tree/their demise means free land:7ninja: or in prep of mongols) and in the front-line exterminating large rebellious sttlements a.k.a. "dirty work," then.... (sigh) :wall::wall::furious3::wall::wall:..........
anyway, a general feeling unappreciated still has chance of redeeming himself by fighting battles, huh? (even rebels will do):lost: i hope that's true since it has not happened to me yet, instead they become "feels disrespected" especially the ones far from the capital.
Generally speaking, generals stationed far from the your capitol will not feel appreciated, especially if they are in underdeveloped settlements and have high command (I think it's 5+), then you need a fortress or large city to keep them from developing the minuses.
With chiv generals, I believe executing prisoners as well as exterminating/sacking settlements has a chance to bring them disloyalty, though I'm not entirely sure about that. Fighting battles does bring it up, but I believe you need to fight meaningful battles (not 3:1 odds slaughterfests), and even doing so will allow you to about break even unless you literally fighting a meaningful battle every turn.

if you're at peace, or if your general is far from the frontlines then fighting rebels it is, except they don't spawn that much (if one does u have to pick which one of your 'unappreciated generals' you'll fight it with). That concept makes me miss rebel spawning rate in RTW :rolleyes: Plus, putting generals in castle-type settlement (fortress, in case no large cities in far from capital regions) is a quick way for them to gain 'Poor w/ Taxes' trait (a :wall:-ing 10% decrease in taxes)
...then again, rebels lessens that gold that enters your coffers (very important, perhaps more). the only solution i can think of is to adopt at minimum 'Loyal' (which means at least 1-2 chiv,:knight: and 7 loyalty guys, not bad) and babysitting 'royal' blood family members. it should be manageable, no?:gossip:
