I assume that a ship's valour is determined by how many stars they have. yet has anyone else noticed how provinces with valour bonuses for ships (e.g. venice for galleys) that the ships produced there have no stars.

or am i wrong in assume that valour is indicated by stars?

Provincial valour bonuses for ships don't work properly in MTW, although I can't claim to know why that is. One of our more "fiddle-minded" members such as drone or macsen rufus will have to answer that part. :book:

Personally I've given up trying to understand the ships valour system :laugh4: You would have thought that 2 stars = 1 valour as for land generals, but I'm not utterly convinced. I have noticed though that in my current BKB game I have longboats from Denmark all with 2 stars. But it doesn't seem consistent with Venice though.... I'm still as confused as anyone :dizzy2:

I don't think that stars = valour. I've had longboats created from Denmark with no stars, and longboats created from Wessex with 2 stars. From my observations, I would say that stars are the command rating of the ship's captain. I don't think there is a way to see a ships valour rating, and I'm not really sure what, if any, effect it has anyway. Does anyone have a saved-game decoder? Maybe valour is stored in there somewhere.

I've never looked, and I can't right now, but you might want to start a VI campaign as the Vikings, and check the star ratings of the 8 Snekkjas they start with. The startpos file does not give them any starting valour, but I would imagine that at least 1 of them has a star. Not really a definitive test though.

Naval combat, the last great mystery of MTW...

Valour bonus regions for ships affect the ships' admirals' command stars and not any of the other ships stats.
