View Full Version : A Note on Cursing

This is just to remind you all that cursing is frowned upon here. MTW is a "teen" game so we let many things slide. However, I've been seeing some serious abuse of the freedom here. Things like writing f*** just don't get it either. There are usually much more eloquent ways to say that you're mad.

Lastly the rules that you read when you joined say:

Quote No posts containing any generally objectionable material: knowingly false and/or defamatory, inaccurate, abusive, vulgar, hateful, harassing, obscene, profane, sexually oriented, threatening, invasive of a person's privacy, or otherwise violative of any law. Posting of copyrighted material, unless the copyright is owned by you or by The Guild, is discouraged. The Guild expects its patrons to remain civil even in the face of disagreements. Any kind of "flaming", slurs or insults adressed to an individual or a group is extremely inappropriate. Please respect etiquette at all times.[/QUOTE]

And before anyone brings up the babbiest babe thread let me just say that that is our way of controlling the sexual related posts. It's a very great way and a great thread. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

Thanks,
Shiro

yeah, imo its a bit anal (retentive...).

Many persons begin using obscene language in middle school, and though i personally rarely curse, i think its silly to ban all lude language. Yes, the game may be rated 'teen', but its hardly material for your average teenager (being 18 i consider myself something of an authority on this).

Its actually mildly insulting to assume other's immaturity, especially in what is supposed to be a relaxed and decidedly 'for entertainment' environment.

Communication on the internet is what it is due to anonymity - no matter what everyone here's age/sex/ or whatever else, we're all just players.

sidhe

don't forget the pic of the "french maid", i've noticed "spam" is only permitted by some,...

however, i do agree with the swearing, especially if little children are reading this. on the same note, they shouldn't have to see those pics...

"are you ready for a war?"-braveheart.

That's right, it is. But usually, it isn't.
Now face front, gents.

edited for content so as not to shock, offend, or infuriate.

btw, i agree w/swearing policy, it's just the clikiness of the whole application.

Oh please, give me a break. Can you please use a more hackneyed cliche? The mods do this for free as far as I know. All he is asking is that we do what we agreed to do when we signed up, ie. show some respect for other people. Is it really that much to ask?

Well... I have to agree with the moderator. If we were all over 18, I wouldn't have problem with it. BUt as you know, there are kids as young as 13 using this web-site. Once I learned that, I started watching my language. I mean, things like "ass" is okay... but yeah, definitely none of those other words.

I really didn't know that either. I don't really read here for the ribaldry anyway, so not a big deal.

I guess it's a matter of context, hehe.
Anyway, as for all these Orwellian references, who said it was fiction? As our Forums Admin Tosa has stated clearly before: This site is not a democracy.

I swear a few times in the forums.. I am so sorry but I was real angry that times for the constant disconnections and drops in MP.

The "No posts containing .. or otherwise violative of any law", which law applies? Here in my country its illegal to bring in chewing gums.. so does that mean I cant post anything about gums? http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/tongue.gif

I don't agree with the policy, but I'll respect it.

I know this was determined long ago in the dojo, but to me the questions is what is this place?

Is it the little league field where we go and play with our kids, then take em to Micky Ds; or is it the bar where we go and down a few with our buddies after the game?

For me, its the bar after playing some ball, and all I wanna know is, who the .... let those .... kids in??? http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/tongue.gif http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/tongue.gif http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/tongue.gif

Now that you're all spamming, this is closed.

Look I'm only trying to do my job. So maybe cursing doesn't bother YOU, but it will bother someone else. We're a community and must work together for the good of the community.

Now suck it up and do what I say. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/tongue.gif
