Ok, sometimes we have to confess that indeed we are working on things, despite what a, ehrm, certain EB member would have you believe... :clown: In this case: the EB1 Website code is receiving a major overhaul and so may the website content if you wish it. To give you the opportunity to influence how the EB1 Website should end up looking, what you should be able to read about on the website, perhaps even how you should be able to read it (any page feeling unwieldy, for instance?), as well as to collect feedback, here is a thread to discuss it all.
Something you wanted changed, added or even removed from the website? Other suggestsions? Ideas? Wishlists? Post 'em here! :smash:
PLEASE NOTE: There is a similar EB2 Website thread (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?p=1944678) up, located in the EB2 Forums (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/forumdisplay.php?f=235).

Something to tell us what the random unit is, I have wracked my brains over many of them.

Obviously as it brings you some form of pain, how can we in our right mind do that? :whip::beam:

Update the unit rosters for the factions, both to take out those which aren't available in 1.1 (like the Vasci assault infantry), but also new ones who are (like the Bruttian infantry).
Perhaps a mercenary roster too, though I know that would be massive, but it'd be nice to see what's available. At the very least, a guide to the mercenary generals might be nice.

Perhaps in the unit lists in the faction descriptions, splitting the units up to show more clearly which are reform units.

Maybe a building list like what building you have to build in order to build the other one. And their description
Also a bibliography for each factions starting FM perhaps?
If those two gets added that will be really cool:2thumbsup:

Make the documentation (unit description with stats and unit compare feature) available online.
Create some more nice wallpapers, maybe a couple for each faction. I would really like more EB in my desktop!
Also, if possible, expand the history section of each faction.

How ´bout descriptions for ships and artillery?
Add recruitment requirements to unit descriptions (level and type of MIC needed + reforms if needed). And for units that can only be recruited in handful of provinces, it would be nice to have those provinces listed. Unit stats could also be added, you could replace unit pictures with unit cards from recruitment viewer.
Additionally, a list of mercenary units and their locations would also be nice to have.

My two cents:
A news script on the main page be easily updated with various goings on, such as new fixes etc for those that don't visit the forum so regularly/at all (although possible this is already in place, if so more updates :beam:)
Also either copying the FAQ over or linking to it from the main site would save a lot of the old topics being brought up again in the forum.
Good to see you guys are updating :2thumbsup:
Cheers
I think it would be absolutely awesome if there was some kind of Info-Section. Select a unit, a building, a wonder, a faction and get all the according details.
E.g. state the buildings effects and give its description copied from EB-game, add the ingame-description and stats to the units, make faction history and specialities readable.
So you can look up all the magnificient entities, their effects, the history behind them without having to go ingame and search them. I for one sometimes would love to get a bit more details about a certain unit/structure and then have to go ingame, search a city with this building and then read its details...annoying. Or the description of units like the Elephants which are so big they are barely scrollable ingame without missing some lines...
Most of the work probably would be to make an interface so you quickly can choose the desired unit to get the info, but that should be doable...the rest is mostly copy&paste-work, I assume.

I just want the non-download spellcheck for my posts back.
It was there two weeks ago. And now it's gone :(
I want to see the winning screenshots of the monthly screenshots competition in the website's gallery.

I'd first like to say that I like the website overall (I think my favourite page is the Factions (https://www.europabarbarorum.com/factions.html) page), and I really like the site's colour scheme so I don't think that should be changed. However, the following could probably do with some sprucing up :beam::
The Downloads\Patches (https://www.europabarbarorum.com/downloads_patch.html) section should have the current fixes uploaded to it.
The Downloads\Music (https://www.europabarbarorum.com/downloads_music.html) section should have all the EB music and the way it is displayed on the page should be changed IMO - the current pictures don't seem to blend in well with the website and I just don't like the look of them particularly.
The Features\Map (https://www.europabarbarorum.com/features_map.html) page seems a bit unwieldy to me, as you put it. Firstly, it should still have that sidebar that the other Features pages have and the 'Back!!' link should be removed (as should anything else with more than one exclamation mark / question mark). Secondly, I think a downloadable full-scale version of the map would be more useful than the current set-up.
The Forum button should open the forum in a new tab IMO and there should be a Home button along the same row as all the other yellow buttons. I know you can click on the top of the website but that's not immediately obvious.
The Donation Chart (https://www.europabarbarorum.com/index.html) / Donations Chart (https://www.europabarbarorum.com/donations.html) needs to be called one thing firstly, and also needs to be made a bit more interesting or just incorporated into the Donation Disclaimer (https://www.europabarbarorum.com/disclaimer.html).
News should get its own section (it's not very convenient reading a lot of text which is in a narrow column for some reason) and it should also get its own button at the top and should be updated more regularly (with fixes, screenshot competitions etc.). I know there's a News Archive (https://www.europabarbarorum.com/newsarchive.html) but that doesn't look very user-friendly to me at the moment. You need to get rid of the sidebar on the News Archive page which is currently empty and write up news stories in full instead of providing links to the forums.
Contacts (https://www.europabarbarorum.com/contacts.html) can probably be merged into Links (https://www.europabarbarorum.com/links.html) and Links should probably be made more appealing (use a different font or something).
The Wallpapers (https://www.europabarbarorum.com/downloads_artwork.html) section seems a bit sparse at the moment - a standard wallpaper for each faction would be nice.
Some of the information (https://www.europabarbarorum.com/features.html) about the mod needs to be updated somewhat (new voicemods, Musica Romana etc.).
Add the EB Google Earth (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=51919) file (NB that might be the old thread, I'm not sure) to Downloads\Misc (https://www.europabarbarorum.com/downloads_misc.html) and add the image from this (http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=127827) thread to Gallery\Artwork (https://www.europabarbarorum.com/gallery_artwork.html).
That's all I can think of for now! :beam:

I would suggest descriptions of all the unique buildings, specific pages for each of the reforms and what units can be received by each, pages for other official EB projects (Example EB II and isn't there an EB CIV I remember reading about). Also I don't know how you guys would go about it but a way of highlighting some of the more rare traits that can be received in game and their description and effect.

I wouldn't mind seeing all of "The Year in History" notes on the EB website. I admit to not really reading them while playing, too anxious to get on with my next move I guess. But I'd read them on the website when I get bored at work:laugh4:

The Downloads\Patches (https://www.europabarbarorum.com/downloads_patch.html) section should have the current fixes uploaded to it.
This is a very good idea.
Perhaps something should be done with the Casse history page?
Keeping it updated with new info and new pictures sounds like a good idea. I think a brief manual (including "don't forget to activate the script!" ~:) ) and/or a couple of guides would also be useful, and a link to the fix-topic. It always annoyed me that fix-announcement would crop up in places that could easily be overlooked by new players.
Oh, and no offense, but I think the team could use someone who looks after the stickied threads. The large number makes it hard for new members to see where to find information, and several of the topics are IMO redundant and could be unstickied. Two or three threads whose first posts are continually updated are far better than 15.
Also I don't know how you guys would go about it but a way of highlighting some of the more rare traits that can be received in game and their description and effect.

But wouldn't that take away the fun from seeing these traits for the first time in the game?

I honestly feel long long blocks of text, like the 'dramatic novelisation' and history of each faction and so on, could be split into parts on separate pages, it'd be easier on the eyes and less scroll-heavy?
Creating an 'interactive' unit card section would be good too, so people could SEE the unit cards online. It'd be the most shiny thing. Unit card, screenshots of the unit at attention and in action.
...A Makedonian history that nicely stands in the middle ground and takes into account all viewpoints would be nice. o.O But hey, who're we kidding?
I volunteer to do these, or some of the other labour-intensive stuff, too. There's a few months before I head for York so I can make myself useful :)

Who? :inquisitive:
has anyone else tried the EB homepage with FF3? The random unit pic is misplaced off to the left...
We need a huge, ultra tight, in ur face flash intro, that pretty much lets everyone know who's the big dog on the mod scene, actually let's make everything flash, screw people that want html only, let's live in the now! Customizable homepage for each user with login, with fancy gadgets like google's homepage, so I can have like tons of RSS readers and find out the weather, news, stocks and movie times in one place. Not too mention a new search engine that automatically categorizes websites based on historical accuracy, not just EB's site, so I can browse the web through an EB team member's eyes. And webmail, definitely webmail, with cool EB skins and unit pictures for everyone on your contacts list and 5 gigs of free storage. We need sweet EB webcomics that are stupid and redundant like penny arcade. Then we need a cool social networking system that will rip myspace and facebook a new one, all without ads and crap, but implementing EB's trait system so you can keep track of your friend's traits and ancilliaries; I mean, come on, even EBer's need to keep track of all their bizzies in the hizzy. While we are at it, we can integrate a game ladder so we can have sweet EB competitions. Don't forget a sweet web app that lets you easily edit all the RTW configuration files from within the site, hell let's just make an EB client so you can play EB through the webserver where ever you are without installing it, that would be way dope. See, you won't even need to download EB when we are all done, just go to the hottest site on the net. Let's not forget a secret file sharing forum so we can pirate music and programs and warez and crap with an EB torrent tracker. I think EB could be a real competitor out their in cyberspace, but we just need to get with the times guys!
a EB history is a little bit better in order...(like unit research, when and where units are/ were used, why a unit was dropped or changed in shape, etc). if you won't do it, then at least let someone else do it for the site.

Would definitely be nice to get a list of building descriptions and effects - either related to or entirely seperate from the trees.
Also, as other people have said more info on FAQs and fixes actually on the site, as some people arent too keen on forums still, as we saw in the other thread about ages that there are all types of people playing EB...

Seconded. Not just for the website either. An HTML list similar to the one that came with 1.1 for units, would be amazing for buildings as well. What it costs to build, who can build it, what effects does it have, how many turns, a little description, etc.
Speaking of just the website though, I'd definately either incorporate the info from the EB 1.1 docs into the website directly (ie, replace the unit viewer for each faction and just have the big list, sortable by faction) or add the two unit lists as downloadables in the same section as the building trees.

The Forum button should open the forum in a new tab IMO
If you do this, I will keelhaul every last one of you, starting with IAH. That's a big no-no.
and there should be a Home button along the same row as all the other yellow buttons. I know you can click on the top of the website but that's not immediately obvious.
Now, there's something better. Actually, when I had that webdesign class in school, we were frequently and specifically told there must always be a home button. If her nagging words are of any meaning to you, bring it.

Another thing I agree with. Having a small news tablet like now makes it easier to notice when something new has happened, but having a page telling the news more properly would still be a benefit.

A good old bump up from a few pages gone. For the benefite of the newer forum users; and of course the people working on the EB Website.
Still working on (a lot of) things still more work to do; but if (especially new) people have more (new) ideas -- post them!

What I care about:
Buildings -- for each faction & by game effect; maybe cross-reference those temples that are the same god, but different culture/name (and thus upgradeable without razing)
Units -- stats, where can be recruited and by whom, where can be hired as mercenaries (a map snippet with highlighted provinces would be a good "vague" approach)
Reforms -- necessary conditions (or, if you prefer to be vague, a description of the reform and why it happened historically -- ie. a hint)
Basically, the technical stuff gameplay stuff.
Also, brief description of some of the scripted weirdness (e.g., Satres) that might completely piss off someone who didn't know they should be playing the game "historically". (I like the authenticity, but before I knew it was a script, I thought the game was buggered up.)

Oh, and a list of the "wonders" and their effects. I razed one in Gaul accidentally, thinking it was some Gallic bullshit.

Definitely an updated EB units list with the correct unit stats. It is annoying to have to constantly refer to EDU, which is not as interesting as the EB Units List.
