View Full Version : CA - If the patch is done - you need to start pressuring Activision

To alienate the people who ALREADY purchased your game is pretty stupid.

Waiting two months for a patch is very discouraging.

Could you please do "something" other than making us wait, and wait, and wait?

Personally, if I were the developer, I'd want to make sure the peope who originally bought the game are kept happy, not keep irritating them by testing their patience. For me, it's almost been long enough to put this game into - "never gonna play again cause I lost interest due to waiting for patch" category.

I don't claim to know the intricacies of the game development world, but are _we_ the customers of CA or is Activision?

Activision and CA both have their reputations on the line if the patch doesn't "work". Considering the flak they've taken, especially over MP, hardware issues and CTD, I'm sure they want to get it right - as do we.

If the patch isn't out soon, Activision will have one Hell of a rebellion on their hands, and as we've been told, only the patch fixes continuos rebellions... Hahaha. Man I kill me...

Know what I do while waiting for patches?

I read the newspaper.

I read books.

I watch films and some TV.

I paint my house or take the trash out.

I talk to the wife and kids.

And I even play other games!

Try it some time. There's a bunch of them out there. No need to get wrapped around the axel over just one title. Besides, a half assed patch we don't need. CA knows what they're doing.

Actually I do all of those Nelson. As well as 3 hours of breathing treatments each day. During that time I catch up on the forums of each game I like. MTW being one, so each day that passes, I come here - see no patch or new patch info, and get a little irritated.

Like I said in a post before, major REPUTABLE game companies release beta patches for their games for those that do not want to wait for the "official" patch. Last I checked, Firaxis and Ensemble Studios are two of THE best companies out there. They release beta patches, so why can't CA follow in their excellent example?

Sorry if I sounded like a smart ass, jpinard.

You're right about Ensemble. Furthermore, they let very few bugs get by the first time.

I suppose that the hybrid turn-based strategy/real time tactical aspect of Total War makes for two complex AI routines to debug instead of just one. That's got to take longer to modify and test.

Smaller studio like CA does not have enough resource to release the patch fast enough. I bet they were under great presure to release the game before they could TRULY finish it. Plus, Activision is now a 3rd class publishing house, who is barely hanging out there. Let's just hope that we can at least get one patch out of them before Activision go bankrupt... Speaking of which, I am thinking Interplay and the Fallout francise, MAF...

Well, let's don't give CA a hard time. If there is anyone we should blame, it's ourselves! We should have restrained ourselves from buying buggy games in the first place. How many times I told myself to wait until the 1st patch then buy the game? Well, it never worked for me. So cheer up guys.

Do you want a Broke Patch or working one? Its not like they are being evil and saying

"Weelllllll Mr Jpinard, he wants the patch so baaaaaadd. Lets hold it back for couple more days, mooohahaaaaaaaaaaa... aa. aa......aaa".

malkuth, you've missed the point. It would be nice to have the "option" to download a broken patch (beta), instead of waiting for who-knows-how-long for Activision to get their butts in gear.

We bought a game with bugs didn't we? We had that choice. So, since we've already paid for it, shouldn't WE have the option to download a beta patch?

I don't know about you malkuth, but I paid for this game, and I believe it gives us certain reasons for expectations. Posting a beta patch is not asking much...

Well Jpinard your free to have your own opinion. Me myself I dont think I have bought a game yet without some sort of bugs. And I have seen my share of rushed patches too.

But looking at the bigger picture even though it would be beta. There would still be people complaining about the Beta broke this and that. Where is the real patch. Its a never ending discussion.

Trust me even though I dont have CTD or anything like that. Some of the other bugs, like the ships, rebels etc. Erk me and I would like the patch as fast as possible too. But Im getting old now, and Patience has settled in. Bones are creaking and stuff now. And Im a whole 28 years old. My god Im old. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

I think a beta patch is nice. The only companies that can't do that are companies like Blizzard since they have battle.net and their AMM won't work with people having different versions trying to play online.

Problem is, we're dealing with ACTIVISION here... the most ignorant company in the gaming world.

They don't give a fig for the players, all they want is $$$$$.

I used to be a netmech player, and there were issues totally ignored by Activision, even when there was a HUGE community. I've seen this behaviour with several of their titles.

Every game company takes forever to make there patches most probably coz the creators of the game are working on a new game and dont havee much time to work on the patch. i think two months is too long. it reminds me of warrior kings and homm4. the patches took forever to get out. i say just be patient

To be honest, I can wait for the patch. Allthough, MTW is the only game I play in my severely limited free time (having a very demanding job and an equaly demanding wife to worry about) I can wait. For a couple of hours. Ok, days.

P.S. I am an old bugger myself: 34 and advancing. But I am child at heart http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

you know, i'm not that fussed about the patch, i haven't really had that many problems with the game, the only thing that annoys me slightly is the odd dockyard tech thread. otherwise all i have are niggles. and hey, if this game gets your goat with bugs, why not go back to basics? after all mtw is really only a sophisticated game of risk.

I did said that very same thing, after playing awhile with... STW. But this one goes far beyond being just a sophisticated version of Risk. STW perhaps, not MTW.

GAH! Elmo is 40. You all still have mother's milk on your breath! http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

The reason for no info. on when the patch is going to be released is due to the developers being flamed in this forum (when they were actively participating) about patch issues. They obviously still read these posts, but are not giving us update info. because it has been shown to be counter-productive. There is an old saying, not sure who to credit it to . . . "People make their own Hells." I am sure my old pal Psycho may have heard this quote, he is a fellow blatherer and is a most well read aussie. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

Id have to disagree elmoooo, I dont think they can confirm a release date even if we were throwing flowers at their feet http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

ps: Actually by the smell you could do with washing those feet!
