I find that these two gun units are useless. they really need to fix em, they arent even worth buying. i mean i tell them to fire. they are in a formation 30 long and 3 fire IN total what gives?

Short range. Only those 3 have a target in range, the rest of them don't, so they don't fire. Use them in a more narrow formation and you'll get a slightly better results(this is for SP).

It's fun to put them in shallow formation (2 deep), turn off engage at will and instruct them to hold formation. Wait until the enemy is almost upon them and then tell them to engage at will. Discharging guns at point blank range is one of the coolest things you'll ever see. I've killed so many generals this way http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

how many kills do u average per blast at point blank range ?

hate to think i might kill 10 spearmen only to have the other 110 impale my gunner on their spears.

here is what I wrote on arquebusier in total xwar assembly (splendid site by the way)


I have yet to try but something strikes me : defense 3/armour 4/ 175 florins so practically it means that for the egyptians, they are the BEST DEFENSIVE UNIT (against infantery of course, otherwise go muhawid), nonewistanding their pathetic missile damage. I will try to make a defensive line with these, with all the others high attack inf units the egypt. get just behind. On paper it could work.

used em i reckon they should have more power to them though, coz gunpowder would nail things as point blank range and they still miss

Hangunners are great in hand-to-hand against most troops. A handgunner at val 4, or val 3 arm 1, will take on most other, more expensive units, and bring them to a standstill. You have to be careful with them though because they are vulnerable to cavalry. They best way to use them is to place them directly behind your front line foottroops and concentrate their fire on just one of the elite enemy units. This will often rout that unit taking the rest with it. IF the unit doesnt rout, you can send them in hand-to-hand and keep your men from routing. Also, in combination with the Almohad murabitins (Jav throwers), handgunners make a deadly defense against the dreaded rush. "Try em, you'll like em!" http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif
