View Full Version : What are the requirements for running EB flawlessly?

My computer is about a year old, and when I bought it (somebody custom made it for me) and played vanilla everything ran perfect on the highest settings.
With EB however I experience lagging when I have two maxed out huge armies meeting on the field. This is not a big problem on normal battle speed, but when I up it to 3x it's barely playable.
I payed almost 2,500$ for the system, so I feel it should run smooth, but what do I know? It got 2gb ram and geforce 8600gt graphics card, with a pretty fast athlon dual core.
Have I been ripped off, are my settings wrong or should I simply upgrade some hardware? Should I even expect it to run smooth on 3x?
Cash is not an issue, I just want to play my favorite game in the smoothest possible way. Can't go back to large now.~:mecry:
Appreciate all help.
Um, either someone lied to you when they told you you have all that stuff in your computer, or something is really wrong. Battles should lag no more than RTW battles, we haven't increased model complexity or texture size beyond what RTW originally had. There is definately a bottleneck somewhere. The 8600 shouldnt be too much of a problem, though I would prefer a 7800 over a 8600.
In other words, no idea.

Well, I know I have it. I'm not exactly a nerd, but I know what the packaging says.:book:
But yeah, something feels wrong.
It takes about 1-3 seconds after I push 'p' on 3x mode before it actually pauses.
Anyone?

for 2500 it was a rip off in my book, sorry :sweatdrop:
Try www.nvidia.com, they are likely to have new software updates that might help.
If are going to invest such large sums into something, take some time reading about it. Trust me, knowing what to buy is easy once you know what is what... which does not take long at all, a friend of mine taught me how to build a computer in theory (knowing what to buy) in less than a day.

u got ripped mah friend
$2500 for 2gb ram and 8600gt? and a anthlon?
EB does kinda have higher texture quality than vanilla but it would only cost u a few hundred troops till lag
rip off u got...
(2500? i'll get myself a intel core 2 e6800, geforce 8800gtx sli, 3gb corsair terminator @ 800mhz)

My advice: Turn grass off completely. You'll be amazed at how much lag that gets rid of.

Well, I live in Norway, so I don't think I got ripped off (fooled a bit perhaps). Prices here are steep to say the least.
So what's the conclusion? Should my system handle it (i.e. I gotta check things) or should I just invest in better/more suitable stuff?
How fast is your "pretty fast Athlon dual core"?
EB runs only on very few systems lagless in 3x time compression with 2000 men during a siege...
The graphic card surely is not the problem (though the 8600GT sucks, I would have suggested you the far more powerful and only merely more expensive 8800GT), the 2GB RAM are okay too, your CPU power is the question left...
And of course: Do you have all the latest drivers applied? Try nvidia.com for your graphic card and your mainboard producers' website for mainboard updates (or also nvidia.com if you have a Nforce chipset)

I don't exactly remember at the moment, currently not privy to my machine. (AMD Athlon 64x2 rings a bell)
It was in the top range of 'ordinary' processors at the time I bought it. I don't know, 2-3 Ghz? I told the guy to give me the best available for the price I was willing to spend, and that seemed to be pretty accurate from looking around forums at the time. Think he took like 2-300 for himself, which is fair.
Don't have the drivers, no. Gonna check that out when I get home on monday.
i think youre expecting way to much if you want glass smooth battles with units on huge and 3x speed...

Although your system should run things fine, I suggest switching off the grass and seeing if that helps. If it does you might try using the vanilla grass textures instead of the EB ones.
As others have said, you should make sure you are using the latest Nvidia software drivers, update Windows with the latest patches and defrag your hard drive.
go to lake jackson, find MI, talk to Mr. Morris, and you'll get cheap computers fit for emprerors of the world. that way, you can run it flawlessly (like I do).

Alright. Thanks for all help. Gonna try out a few things, see how it goes.
Much appreciated.
You could also try to disable shadows and/or antialiasing. Your system should work better than that.
