Hello,

I just downloaded EB version 1.1

Fine up until the point of actually playing the god dam thing.

Error message: RomeTW.exe-mod:eb-show-error'failed

That comes up when I go into the programs section and say 'Play single-player game'

I can get up all the maps, units and look at them, but i can not play or go into the actual game.

Why isn't anything ever simple?

Regards,
L

Things aren't simple because you aren't doing things correctly.

I would uninstall EB and then follow the directions found here:
https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=80270

If that still doesn't work then you need to validate your install by following this thread:
https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=93236

Adding to what Foot said, there are a number of solutions in the validation sticky he linked, that have worked for various others.

Still, failing to run RomeTW.exe suggests that you have installed EB in the wrong directory so the first thing to do is follow the first link he posted.

This is most likely the cause, didn't installer warn you that you are installing EB in wrong folder?

Nope, It just said don't do it in the program files. So I created a new folder "EB" did it. Then that came up.

Anyways, I have a good message service with my friend, that is good with all this stuff, who said to copy the RTW files to EB directory, this worked. I pressed the play button, it got to the starting thing up. However, now it is saying 'X file does not exist' I press okay. Then it pops up again: 'X file does not exist', and again, again and again. Until it says 'The computer is finding trouble with *something*' then goes away. Leaving me, uninstalling it, reinstalling (in rightfolders now) and then I start again. I got to the introduction bit to the game, yet again, but then it blips again with these error messages.

Back to foot's point. No it ant easy. Or it would work. Click> click > Play just like normal RTW.
(not sticking the game in fodder, I am just saying technology isnt easy with downloads. I actually so want this game Ive tried since 4pm today to get it working.)

Regards.

Ps: This may have something to do with why it isn't working. On the rome total war game I went into the data>world>Maps>Imperial Campaign to change the cash you get, to make it more challenging as I was getting bored of doing well straight away. Does this apply to this bit: "you have a version 1.5 of RTW that contains neither any traces of other mods, nor any modifications of your own.".

Greatful for the responses so far.

Why muck around with the files when you can just use the add_money command in the console when you start a game?

Right heres what I am going to do:

Uninstall Rome:Total War 1 (by the way do I have to uninstall the expansion packs?)
Then Install it in a different folder than programs
Then Install EB within that very folder
Play it :)

Thanks.

and the not installing under Program Files only applies to Vista. although i have EB installed there and have never had a problem...

Even so, it's still sloppy PC management to put games in Program Files.

I installed everything that Rome:total war intended to it. What patch do you need 1.5? I got that if so.

However, yet again it is now flickering, I pressed play and it worked for 2 seconds and went off automatically. So screw it.

I tried my best and my computer is being a **** about it.

Sorry about the language.

Install RTW
Install patch 1.3 (http://games.softpedia.com/get/Patch/Rome-Total-War-13-English-Patch.shtml)
Install patch 1.5 (http://games.softpedia.com/get/Patch/Rome-Total-War-15-Patch.shtml)
Install EB to the folder that contains the file "RomeTW.exe" (not "Activision" or something).

If all is correct should look a little something like this (note the folder "eb's" location in relation to RomeTW.exe, that's the important bit, I haven't bothered installing the trivial script for example).

You also apologise about your language so you're obviously aware its inappropriate, so no offence but may I suggest in future you learn to use your computer rather than crudely blaming the mod and lowering the tone of the forum.
Regardless hope that's of help.
Cheers

Ideally only applications should be in that directory. Games, media, all those kinds of things should be well away, if possible on another drive altogether. That way when you regularly format the O/S drive (formatting will of course require the reinstallation of all your apps anyway), you don't have to find somewhere to store/backup your stuff.

Flickering? Add -nm to the shortcut. It's all in the two links Foot provided.

I don't agree with that. When you format your O/S drive you have to reinstall your games anyway so what point is there in putting them on another drive? You can just copy over the save game folders and save a load of space on your backup drive.

Also my game doesn't even start either. Fresh install of everything, nothing happens when I run, not even in the task manager. A waste of my time and life I will never recover.

The point is I don't need to muck about much with my O/S and apps drive, whereas I'll be chopping and changing media and games all the time. Leaves me a nice, simple, unfragmented O/S drive that's rarely touched, and one for games and such that I can play around with all I like.

when EB doesnt start like this its usually because its installed in wrong directory. If you have RTW Gold it installs to a diffenrent directory than what EB defaults to, IIRC

I have RTW gold, but I simply install it to C:\Rome, and EB straight on top of that. Never had any problems and I've installed it dozens of times on various systems, both Vista and XP.

Okay, I did say sorry for my language and I wasn't blaming it on the mods here or the game but my computer.

Also, when you usually say sorry about something I don't expect snobbish edits or replys from it. It's language. Get over it.

Anyway, Back to the annoying thing ever.

I know how to use a computer thank you very much. However, If this is a mod. It should go on top of the file I have already made with RTW, and work. So why doesn't it?

I am going intsall the patch you have suggested in post 11. (forgotten your name sorry)

then i am going to test it again.

Oh, and do I have to uninstall EB again, then re-install it so the patches take effect?

Becuase they are all in, the RTW files...and also in the directory, does the EB and RTW have to be in different slots? If so, that's gone wrong...

Regards
L

EDIT: Patch does not work. It goes 'file not found error:404'

Swordmaster

If you have RTW gold, you don't need the patch. It's already patched to 1.5. When you install vanilla RTW, go to the options screen. The version running is in the corner of the screen.

Then install EB to the directory that has the RomeTW.exe file. That means that the EB folder needs to be inside of the folder where RomeTW.exe is, as is shown by the screenshot provided by overweightninja.

To fix the flickering you are experiencing, you need to add -nm to the shortcut.
