Ok, here is the deal, I'm starting to get really far into my roman campaign (220's), and want a break frrom the heavy infantry slugfests, so i want to start a side campaign as an eastern faction to get a small taste of steppe warfare every now and then. I want to roleplay taking over the entire steppe region using all cav armies, and foot archer garissions, but i am not sure what faction is best suited for this. I really don't see the parthians, or the Hay doing it, so my choices are between the Saka, and the Sarmations. Which one is better suited to conquer the entire steppe portion of the map, including the fact of the possible reforms fo r the Saka? :juggle2:

For steppe conquest only, I'd take the Sarmatians. With the Saka it's somehow a must to conquer southwards.

Of the two, the Sauromatae are the easiest ones to do it with AFAIK. Still, I personally prefer Saka Rauka, even though I've never really played as either of them. The reds just seem more appealing to me. :smug2:

For pure steppe conquest I'd actually prefer the Saka because you get a clear direction of expansion. I just like the idea of going from the Eastern end of the map towards the West. But, as Swordmaster said, there's great goodies to be had if you go South with the Saka... that's how you'll get your Indo-hellenic stuff. Not to mention you're red, and there's something fitting about that part of the map looking red.
On the other hand the Sauromatae have dragon banners... There's something epic about them to be sure.

I'd go with Bartix, though.

No. They can't build ships, so that'd be a bad move for the steppes.

well i started a campaign with both and think the Saka are a lot more fun. I've finally turned a profit with them about a year and a half into the campaign. I had quite the herioc victory when the bactrians attacked. I had about 80 men verse their about 750 and won. Thanks for all the help.

DISABLE_ARROW_MARKERS must be set to TRUE in preferences.txt, found in the preferences folder. Note that for EB that's the one in Rome - Total War\EB\preferences\, not the one in Rome - Total War\preferences\
