Thanks for letting me play guys, but thanks to EA the server crashed just before my game. This crashed my computer, and I could'nt get on again as the EA server was dead.

Gave up at around 8pm ish.

I lose by default.
Fuk u EA, fuk u very much.

Respect to the Tenki ladz who put on a really good tournament (even though I was in it for all of 15 minutes) and good luck to those who managed to play and advance to the next round.

Well this is what happened fellas. I was talking with a EA server guy and he was telling me that the previous situation last weekend was due to a DB problem. So he heard about our large tourney and decided to check it out for himself. Well anyway he did a reboot of the server to have a fresh start for us to work with. We when people tryed to relog back on (about 100 or more) at the same time it caused stress on the server. So he disconnected it and reconnected.....

We had a whooping load of 135 players in the room today most i have seen ever. Well anyway he was watching the server and found that it had some flaws, so now that he knows how the server reacts to a mass amount of players he will make some suggestions to remedy it. So please don't flame the EA guy, it's hardly there fault.

Also he will try to let the community know more of the technical issues so we don't get lefted out in the dark!

Thanx for all your support, we will post the players who advanced to the quarterfinals soon.

Senju you are correct my friend. I am an elec. engineer at Ford Motor Company. We are expected to keep 360+ welding robots up and running, but are not given enough funds nor people to accomplish the job properly. This results in predictable (to us involved) downtimes and frustration when we are blamed for not properly maintaining the equipment. LOL The person responsible for the maintenance of the server, I am sure from talking with him, is doing his best given the resources at hand. You can be sure that this is just a minor part of the responsibilities he has been tasked to do for EA by his superiors, who see this as a minor thing, and do not realize that it may impact the sales of the new add-on game.
So EA guy, we feel your pain, hang in there and when you become boss, remember how things should be run and not how they ARE run at that level. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif cyas later guys, Elmarkofear

Elmark,

I thought I had it bad with not enough resources to keep a medical scanner running, but your situation sounds like a nightmare. Then again, because there was until recently only one scanner of this type, there was always a lot of pressure on me to get it working when it broke.

I'm glad this was a controlled shutdown of the EA server and not a crash. It's too bad there was no way to let people know the server was going down. I can believe the database is causing trouble. You can see the slowdown now when you do a search compared with six months ago. Too many names I think, and it just keeps getting bigger.

Sounds like the EA guy is on the ball, but, in my experience, the only way a better server will be provided is if this one keeps failing.

Yuuki, LOL yours is the more serious problem, if it goes down it may cause a loss of life or limb . . when ours go down your car might have that annoying squeak in the dash!!! http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif hehe

actually, what happened was just a tiny bit different that what you said, senju...

the server did go down, like you said, but a few of us came back up in a dead foyer and others were 'hung' trying to get to the dead foyer. i say dead, because you could hardly talk in there. took a minute for your communication go get displayed after you sent it. i was actually still in this dead foyer but alt/tab'ed out to use icq and find out what was going on. i got ahold of yuuki and he said the server was up again and working fine! imagine my surprise to find out that i was in the foyer in an incredible lag and yuuki says the thing is up and working fine and loaded with people.

i suspect that others in trying to return were also hitting this 'false' server and getting thrown out or not connecting and couldnt get back in to the tourney.

i killed the game and false server by ending several tasks (duplicate in some cases) and rebooted my machine. sure enough, i came back in to a smoothly running foyer with lots of folks....i suspect some others were not quite so fortunate. i've seen 'ghost' processes before, but never like this one. it was quite weird.

Hi guys

First off a big thank you and well done to the guys at Tenki for their efforts at the weekend, GREAT JOB guys. Secondly a mention is in order to Ben from EA who gave up part of his weekend (unpaid) to monitor the tourney.

I will be releasing information on the server situation later today to keep you all up to date. But I am really sorry for the hassle with the server over the last few days, but it is being sorted!

Bugger...5 more seconds eh?

Oh well sod it. I retract my earlier "fuk u" statement about EA server blokes, I was pissed off at missing the tourney and it was a knee jerk reaction. Instead I direct it at mid to senior management.
Provide the funds and sort it managerial people, EA has a class product and sorting the online side properly means it could rule the world.

Once again, respect to the Tenki lads and also to the server ops @ EA, now I know what really went on.

Kraellin,

The first thing I did when I dropped was try to get back on, but I only got as far as the "connecting" message. That was a good sign that something was still alive on the server end, but I figured it might be in the process of (hopefully) rebooting. I took that opportunity to reboot my machine just in case it was in a funny state. My next connection attempt got me to the "logging on" message, but it just stayed there. So, not wanting to bog down the server, I exited and waited about 15 min, and then tried again and got on. I think the total elapsed time from the crash to when I got on was between 20 and 25 min.
