Hi all, I'm new here and hope to give you all some good stories if I can get my game working properly!

I bought Medieval 2 in Germany a week back on a trip out there (couldn't resist for a fiver) and assumed that I would be given the option to install in English like most other games.

I wasn't however and now I'm stuck with a German game :help:.

Does anyone know how to convert it to English?

From memory (Last topic i read on this exact question would have been early last year):

You can't. From there, memory is hazy in either:

It's locked into German, you can't get it into english
or
You can replace some files to turn everything into English.

Sorry I cant be of more help

The textfiles are easily converted provided you have the english files somewhere at hand. Just install a mod and it will be in english (the mod, not the vanilla game).

However, converting/replacing the sound files into English is either impossible or very very complicated. I myself had the UK version before and now, after buying the Gold Edition, I am stuck with the german localization, which is simply disgusting and full of errors. :furious3: I wish I could do something about that and get back the english audio files.

Xenophonia does something about the sounds but it requires to have the English audio in the first place.

Other than that, to make your game German I imagine you would just need to replace your main pack files with English ones (exe file should be the same) and the audio dat/idx of course.

Thanks for the replies guys. I must say this seems like a really nice community. This is the first forum I have posted on about this problem where people have actually bothered to reply to me...

Does anyone know of anywhere I could get the English files?

I'll probably just go into town at some point and pick it up from Gamestation or GAME or something cheaply.

It is quite annoying though.

Not to my knowledge. Though you could certainly ask for them to be uploaded (they are several gigs in size though)
