i started playing another campaign: hre, hard, early again. this time i concentrated mostly on upgrading my farmlands and upgrading 2 provinces.
guess what? the pope keeps on giving me money, 3 or 4 times fl. 1000! now it has been stated here that the pope doesnt really favor hre but france and spain instead, so i was actually suprised. coincidence? i dont think so. anyone else had this experience?

The Pope favours France ? really ? I've played them and I never got a single Florin from him...what do you need to do to get money ?

i think it generally involves avoiding warmongering. i only ever get free money at the beginning of the game, before i start having a go at the french

yeah when i was playing as england for about 5 turns i kept getting 1000 florin at beggining of game wasnt bad helped me buy the welsh and scotish army but then the stingy pope stop dishing out cash http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/frown.gif so i attacked france.

One theory that I have is that when you keep your people happy, ie. you get the happiest people in your empire message(dont know the exact wording) I seem to get money turn after turn until someone else gets the top rating.
