I just buy m2tw to be prepared if any version of ebII is ready to download. So i tested the game + kingdoms expansation.
first the loading time is really short... aha... graphic ok... mhh
But bah, it disappointed me. just to stupid and bored me after some hours...
i can recruit polish woodpacker in jerusalem, then timur panzerelephants/killermachines - what is this, fucking crusades and dschihads that never stops, command and languages are with tricky accent...ASO
yupp, that rules (haha)!
time to say what many other said before - thanks eb-team for making this mod!
*You know what you miss when you don´t have it anymore*
My question to the others, do you like m2tw for permanent playing??

I'll pick it up when it's below £5. I'll install it when EB2 is out. What else would I need it for? Alexandros Syriakos is marching onto Lydia right now, so I don't really care about Polish woodpeckers or whatever it was.
I was just thinking about getting M2TW... not so sure anymore though. Everyone I talked to seems to hate it

Some of the concepts are great, but the game is flawed.
The worst part is a bug in which the enemy army will not attack you. Just just hold the line while you empty every arrow and bolt in your arsenal. It's really annoying.
Graphically, the game does look better, but I am more concerned with gameplay and immersion than graphics. I have a better time going back to MTW I than I do playing the second.

I know what you mean. Good graphics get me excited for the first hour or so, but then the thrill is gone and all that's left is the actual gameplay.

Same. As I did with BI, I'll buy it when it's on budget and needed for a mod I want to play. I've never played vanilla BI and don't want to.

I think, gameplay-wise, it's an improvement over RTW. AI is not as quick to declare war just because you have a border. So, if I'm allied with say Venice, they don't automatically declare war if I conquer a mutual neighbor. In fact, I've kept allies the entire game if I didn't do anything to anger them. Of course, I've also lost allies when I gave them excuses (attacking their allies, mistreating their co-religionists, etc). So, the AI is much more rational than RTW.
I've found the battle AI has the potential to be quite a bit smarter as well. Unfortunately, it usually bounces between all-out charging with everything they've got as soon as the first arrows hit them and standing like sheep while the arrows rain down. Then there are those rare moments when it sends out skirmishers, attempts to find flanks, feints one part of the line while overloading another. . . TACTICS and stuff!
My biggest whine about the game is there's no difference, unit-wise between the different factions. Sure, there's going to be some similarity between units that perform the same function, regardless of the linguistic, cultural, or regional differences of the people involved, but to make them exactly the same except for their uniform color is a silly oversimplification.
Overall, it's a superior frame to build EB on than RTW, so I'm fairly psyched to see the results of the team's efforts.

In a sense I would like to see the EB team take on a different time period, such as either the BI period or the middle ages themselves, but these guys are clearly Ancient World scholars. Also, I really have no say in what they do since I am incapable for helping out! We'll play whatever we are given... and I must say EB is the best TW experience ever.

Aah if the EB team did the BI time period I'd love them, imagine if that time period has as much depth as the first EB gave antiquity! :dizzy2:
As for M2TW, I'm gonna get it again and install Stainless Steel over it. I think I'm done just borrowing my mates over and over again.

I'd probably foam at the mouth if the BI period were selected. RTW Vanilla isdetailed and varied in comparison to BI.
Of course, if CA didn't create RTW and M2TW in the first place, there'd be no EB and EB2...
That said, I did find the graphics and M2TW quite nice, and can't wait to see what the EB guys do with them. Gameplay-wise, it held me for a couple of weeks, just long enough to find out what it could do. I got a bit bored when all of the factions started looking the same, with the same (more or less) units available to every western faction with a few minor differences. Also, the fact that peasants looked like elvenkind from Lord of the Rings bothered me...
Overall, I found M2TW a little too homogenous for my liking. I won't say anything about the cannon elephants, excet that at least they weren't in LS!

MTW2 is a good game and a great engine. I modded it immediately, and then I found much better mods to improve the game. Actually, there are some very good mods out for MTW2, and I for one had about a year of bliss out of that game playing my favorite mods and watching them grow to their potential. EB is an outstanding mod, and I love the historical accuracy, but after seeing the MTW2 engine and a.i. I doubted that I would ever play a RTW mod again. One of the main reasons I am addicted to EB now is that my computer can easily handle the RTW engine, and so the battles are in real time and therefore fun. My frame rate drops off on MTW2, and the whole battle lags to a point that it can take an hour or more to finish. That meant that I could never play at night after my wife went to bed, since a single battle could keep up past midnight and leave me wasted for work the next morning. Once I buy a new computer I will go back to MTW2 mods immediately, although I hope that EB2 is out by then, as that would automatically be one of the top mods for the engine...

You should play M2 with mods like Stainless Steel and Broken Crescent...
It's much much more fun and deeper.

That's a pretty empty and meaningless aphorism, though. Doesn't make the original games any good just because other people were able to salvage something playable from them.
no one seems to find the AI pathfinding in MTW2, particularly in cities as annoying as me then ?... that was the real immersion killer for me...
cheers,

For info, MTW2 will be relased on a budget label in the UK in about 4 weeks time,
£9.99 RRP, or as low as £5.99 in some places.
