View Full Version : Has the AI ever offered you a ceasefire?

It just did, for the first-time ever to me. I actually managed to whale on Epeiros hard enough (as Makedon) that they gave in and asked for peace.
It all happened really fast, too; the year before, I was besieging their capital city (can't remember the name) with a fullstack inside; I was planning on starving them down for a while, but then Pyrrhos showed up with his own stack. Not wanting to risk my only professional army against such odds (6 units of Pezhetairoi, 2 units of Hetairoi and 2 more of Prodromoi, along with support troops... it's a real monster) I retreated.
Unfortunately for Pyrrhos, while he was unable to catch up, the captain of his other stack decided that he could take me on. Of course, with just one leaderless army to face, I smashed him easily, taking out basically all of Pyrrhos's professional phalangites, both his units of Elephants and basically all of his army guarding his capital. Two seasons later, I caught up to Pyrrhos and defeated him in turn, killing him, his heir and the last professional soldiers left in Epeiros. It almost seemd unfair; those Hetairoi just destroy whatever they hit, like a freight train hitting a cow. In fact, I'm gonna get rid of one unit, and replace it with two units of Hetairoi Aspidophoroi.
I had just moved further north to besiege the northern city (it had a significantly larger army than the capital, albeit still small, and I was trying to take out what remained of their army) when, much to my surprise, during the AI turn they came to me, begging for peace! I tried to extract demands (namely, Taras) but they started getting testy, so I decided to keep what I could get. The only problem is, though that Alkyoneus is now stuck in Epeirote territory in the middle of winter, and he hardly has enough movement to go one tile, much less get back to Makedonian territory; so I may end up losing the peace right away if I can't figure out how to use the move_character command.
So, has anyone ever actually walloped the AI so badly that it asked for peace?

-it will give the coordinates of where your mouse-pointer is at (x,y). ex, (121,22)
move_character "Alkyoneus Argeades" 121,22
-character will move to designated coordinates
The AI never offered me peace before, preferring to stubbornly fight to their own bitter end. Maybe it has something to do with the Romans fighting them in Italy and that they want to close a second front by offering peace with you? I think the same thing may have happened with Olimpian, whereas the AI AS had other wars to fight rather than go on with a costly struggle for Asia Minor with Makedoneia.
Having it right now. Massive Makedonian empire, and Charax rebelled to the Seleukids (who was neutral with me), so immediate declaration of war. Next turn, they immediately offered a ceasefire. Advantage of M/M, methinks.

Not that I can remember. Although they have accepted ceasefires without me using Force Diplomacy on occasion. Not that they won't break them soon after, mind.

I think once or twice I was offered peace.
However Rome won't stop demading I become protectorate as Epeiros (Not even sure exactly what happens if I accept.) After about the 5th or 6th demand, I got fed up, sailed a second full stack west and sacked Rome =]

As Rome I have had Carthage offer me a ceasefire during my "1st Punic War" in quite a few campaigns, not in my current one though.
I get that all the time....

As the Sweboz I recruited two armies(one german one made up of mercenaries) and sacked and pillaged all of Gauls cities, both rebel and Aedui/Arverni. Managing to wipe out the Arverni and destroy all of the settlement's buildings and letting them rebel(the Arverni ones just went rebel, while the Aedui got most of the settlements.
After I sacked Venetio and Mediolanum I returned to Gernany and, just to see if it would work, asked the Aedui for protectorateship.
They..accepted.
First time that ever happened.
Oh and they have 2 FMs left :)

I´ve also experienced it quite a lot ( both on M, H and VH ), especially when I´ve been at war with a faction for a long time without actually fighting them; for example a faraway nation that I do not share my borders with. Who you and your enemy are allied and at war with and how many affects the tendency of constructive diplomacy happening aswell of course.
The ceasefire that would resemble a surrender of sorts, when you got an enemy in a chessmate, is on the contrary highly unlikely to happen (although it can, as others have pointed out aswell) unless you utilize the Force Diplomacy mod.
Other than that I get the seemingly random, bugged sues for peace constantly from more immediate threats - which of course are broken in a few turns.

quite a few times, but only to attack me the very next round, whether I accepted or not!

After I conquered Byzantion in my roman campaign, the AS took turns besiegeing it and then immediatly offering ceasefire. It went on like this for about ten years.
In this campaign Nikaia rebelled from the Seleucids to me (Makedonia). Because I didn't had better to do, I shipped my army to Byhtinia and started bashing Seleucids in Asia Minor. After I had reduced those to Mazaka they offered a ceasefire. I accepted. A little later they offered an alliance as well. I accepted. In response they attacked me some turns after that...
In one of my Baktria games AS gave me Marakanda and Eschate for a ceasefire after I've trashed 5 or 6 stacks of Argyraspides and other annoying units with my Indian troops...

As Carthage I took Region from Eleutheroi. Rome sieged me with full stack and I beaten them back.
While I was retraining Rome offered me a ceasefire. They attacked me in the same turn:sweatdrop:

AI offered me a ceasefire only once, when my Romans were capturing Sardinia. It never happened again, actually, no matter how hard you hit some AI faction, they won't ask for a ceasefire. What's even more wired, they also won't accept a ceasefire from you although they can be on the verge of extinction.

epiros? ceasefire? the bastards just backstabbed me today when we were invading makedonia together... the bloody buggers, they seiged thermon and pyrrhos's son attacked me after we took out 2 fullstacks of Makedon's last professionals!
now they are going to face the fury of 2 athenian generals trained as spartans, and a spartan general, plus my professionals. Them buggers better sue for peace, otherwise Pyrrhos isnt going to have much of a country left.
get this, this means they opened a second front just after they took back the heel of italy!
i cant wait to take on Pyrrhos myself! :duel:
i wonder if he still got those elephants...

You don't. You use skirmishers or skirmisher cavalry.
Hippakontistai or Hetairoi Aspiphoroi will do fine.

yeah, in my current Aedui game i have set up a containment perimeter at Mediolanum bridges and Massalia bridge - no roman crosses those bridges!
my motto is: Gaul - keeping the romans south of the alps since 250 BC!
after having slaughtered the attacking roman legions for about a hundred times, killing off tenth of thousands in the process, the roman diplomat came to me and begged for a ceasefire. but i had so much fun slaughtering the romanii at the bridges that i refused.
after some more crushing defeats, the roman emissary came again. this time i was inclined to accept a ceasefire - for the little prize of the citiy of massalia. and the roman agreed! so i got hold of massalia. and a couple of turns later the romans attacked it, breaking the ceasefire!
now i was pissed. so i destroyed all the builings in the city and left it to the mob to take over. and the mob did what he does best. strangely enough, the town didn´t turn Eleutheroi, but rather changed to a Koinon Hellenon territory.
oh well, may they fight with the romans, i´ll keep my armies at the bridges, repelling all roman advances and building the experience of my armies.

Yeah, it's only been a year, and I just spied a fairly large stack wandering around Epeiros. Basically all levies, but I got a feeling they're not gonna stay good neighbors for long.

Not so strange, Massilia was a Greek colony. It's faction creator in the descr_strat.txt is KH so that's who it would rebel to.
I just had the Seleukids accept a ceasefire again, after I kicked their behinds (twice) and took Ipsos. No Force Diplomacy involved again.

The Romans just offered me a ceasefire after they attacked me, and I counterattacked with my best full stack. I was KH, and I had captured Syracuse, Messanna and Rhegion. I was fighting a lengthy war with Carthage, but I had yet to win a final decisive battle to cement my claim to Sicily, when two Roman 1/4 stacks attacked my forts in the passes to the north and west of Rhegion. I counterattacked with my main Sicilian army and some reinforcements from Greece. I Drove the Romans back and besieged Taras. During the same series of turns I offered Carthage a cease-fire and military access (To Rome who they were also at war with) in return for Lepki in North Africa. I brought my African army that had been campaigning against Carthage back to Sicily to keep an eye on Carthage, and I allowed their Full stack of elites to precede against the Romans to the North. Simultaneously, the Carthaginians landed an amphibious force north of Capua. The Romans offered me a peace treaty in the face of these several invasions. I accepted, and my army retreated from Taras and i restored the old mountain pass fortresses. I then revoked military access for Carthage (their stack was by Capua now), and in return they ended our temporary alliance. Two turns later the Romans again attacked from the north. I hit toggle_fow and all of Carthage's forces had been destroyed, while Taras had revolted to the Epirotes. I had sent my Sicilian army to the East to deal with Pergamon, so only my African army Remains to fight the Romans. This army has now made the full tour, fighting in Pontos, Cyprus, and against the AS in the east before being brought west to deal with a Carthaginian invasion of Crete. From there they invade Kyrene, and waged a campaign against Carthage in North Africa. Now they are Italy facing the Romans.
As Baktria, the AS would occasionally offer cease fires as well, but I rarely have seen the Romans do it... This is on Hard Campaign difficulty...
Never had an AI request a ceasefire except when I play KH, every game the Seleucids and Pontus shlep diplomats over to offer a ceasfire. I always look forward to that 20K pay off, it is weird, I wonder if that is scripted or something?

Happened a few times to me. Mostly when I´m big and the other guy is weak and have multiple enemies. Once the Sele´s asked for peace in my Pontos campaign though. I had 2 cities, they had something around 30.
