View Full Version : Irritating dialogue

Is anyone else getting irritated by the dialogue boxes used during the 'Taking Move' phase of the game.

I find myself getting fed up with reading them to find out what happened and then clicking past something vital without noticing.

I think these dialogue boxes are very badly designed in that 'Good' and 'Bad' events look almost identical.

For example:

'You killed an enemy spy.' and 'Your spy was killed' are exactly the same picture.

What happened to the nice simple messages we used to get from STW.

Oh! Also. Whilst its a nice touch referring to agents by their names and not mentioning their type is most annoying as I don't memorize the names of all MY Spies, Assassins and Bishops let alone the enemies. So messages like Yugi Halflinger has been killed by enemy agents doesn't really tell me anything I want to know.

Can we simplify these dialogue boxes please?

or at least add a heading that summarizes the effect.

I'll second that motion.

I'd like to see some variation to the "whip-whip-whip-scorch-drop" sound too - maybe only use it for good or bad events.

Yep! It's funny how these things get on your nerves after a while. The WWSD sound is next on my hit list. I have already got rid of that screeching chalk on a blackboard sound that Assassins make when order to kill someone as it was setting my teeth on edge.

The other real-life annoying sound is the dah-dah-dah-dah dah-deedy-dah-dah-dah-dah sound that NTL play over their telephone system when your waiting to report a fault.

God does that get into your brain after hanging on for the compulsory 20 minutes http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif

Hear, hear! I agree about that annoying screeching sound whenever you give an assassin a mission. I almost never mess with them anymore because the noise is so disproportionately loud and annoying. Subtle sounds are always the best.

Also, I agree that it would be nice to show the position of the agent and location, as well as his/her name.

I also despise the same hammer-and-saw sound we hear every time a building is completed. I had to disable non-crucial event messages just to avoid that sound. Why not have a different sound for each building type? The sound of swords clashing for a swordsmith, horses neighing for horse breeders, or chanting for a church? Would be so much more appropriate and charming.

well the dialogue box does tell you what the ranks of your killed agent were, so you can keep tabs on a favorite.
