Right, well lately I've been doing some very simple rekins of existing units, none of which are anymore than simple copy and paste jobs, but I've got some questions all the same. Thankfully, I've found a lot of guides on the forums, most of which are for photoshop. However, I've been using gimp, and I haven't the slightest clue as to how to properly save the files.

This is what I do:

Compression: BC3/DXT5
Format: Default (can't select it with the chosen compression)
Save: Selected Layer (also can't be selected)
Checked in the box to "generate mipmaps"
Transparent Index: 0 (can't be selected)
Advanced Options:
Colour Selection: Default
Unchecked the box to "use dithering"
Mipmap Filter: Default

I believe I'm doing it right, but the units I edit seem to get transparent spots in places I never touch, i.e. there's a hole in the back of the helmets of the kelto-hellenic hoplites when all I did was edit their cloak/cape.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. :beam:

sounds like your alpha layer is messed up.

I'm not sure what that means, antiochus, but speaking of layers, I started off with 9 layers and when I saved it, I ended up with 7 somehow. I think I'll redo it and see how it turns out. Thanks for the responses, guys.

that means the skin and the model are having an argument:clown:
but if its alpha, than check both the model's settings, and that of the skin.

As I'm sure you'll know "alpha" in the context of colours means about the same as "inverted transparancy" i.e. an alpha of 255 (highest possible with 32bit colour encoding) means solid (opaque) and an alpha of 0 means complete 'see-through'. Obviously this can be assigned per pixel in grid formats (JPEG, BMP, PNG etc.) as opposed to vector maps (where it can be assigned per vector) or 'object maps' (per object).

:inquisitive: What does this mean? It appears when I attempt to save it, along with an "ok" button and an "x" button in the top left corner. It till still save, but I think it may be the root of my problems, what with the dissapearing layers and all that. By the way, I don't even touch the models, as my "works" are merely copy and paste jobs.

DDS Image Message

DDS: It appears your image may be a volume map, but not all layers are the same size, thus a volume map cannot be written.

EDIT: Who cares about that DDS Image Message, I just found out what I was doing wrong! Apparently, it's from the mipmaps being generated. So in the advanced options, in the mipmap generator selection, I selected "Nearest". The mipmaps for my Molossos Agema were correctly done without any invisible/alpha spots in weird places.

I'll post a picture up shortly. They're pretty cool.

Epeirote bodyguards. I changed their stats to match those of the Makedonian Companions.
I still haven't made a unit card for either them or the Molossos Agema. I hate doing unit cards...
