As anyone who checks Drudge knows, Limbaugh netted the biggest payday in radio ever. Details (http://www.drudgereport.com/flashrl.htm).

LIMBAUGH SIGNS THROUGH 2016; $400 MILLION DEAL SHATTERS BROADCAST RECORDS

**Exclusive**

The American broadcast industry is rocked, realigned and blasted into a new orbit, yet again, by Rush Limbaugh, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned.

In what is being described as an unprecedented radio contract, Limbaugh will keep his syndicated show on-the-air and e-v-e-r-y-w-h-e-r-e through 2016 with CLEAR CHANNEL and PREMIERE RADIO.

Already host of the most lucrative hours since radio's inception, Limbaugh's total package is valued north of $400 million, according to media insiders.

The NEW YORK TIMES will claim this weekend that Limbaugh, marking 20 years this summer as a national host, has secured a 9-figure signing bonus for the new deal, newsroom sources tell DRUDGE.

In its controversial profile, the TIMES reports that Limbaugh is buying a new G550 jet and is making an estimated $38 million a year.

[The cover photo of the TIMES Sunday magazine depicts Limbaugh 'dark and sinister' in a theme of THE GODFATHER.]

While newspapers and traditional broadcast media are experiencing declining revenues, Limbaugh's golden microphone has turned diamond-laced:

Earnings now pace him ahead of the annual salaries for network news anchors: Katie Couric, Brian Williams, Charlie Gibson and Diane Sawyer — combined!

The deal represents a stunning triumph over the establishment by an outsider who connected with and captured the spirit of the nation's heartland.

And here's the NYT Magazine piece (http://www.nytimes.com/2008/07/06/magazine/06Limbaugh-t.html?_r=1&pagewanted=print&oref=slogin) in its entirety. Only read the first few graphs, but it doesn't start off as a hit piece. Doubtless the evil bias will become clear if I read further.

So what do Orgahs think? Is this the just desserts of a genius who worked outside the system, or is this a classic case of media overpaying for an entertainer who is peaking?

Peaking? Isn't he into his 17th minute?

Seriously, I'm flabbergasted that they paid him that much. But then, when Keith Olberman and Bill O'Reiley have their own shows, dedicated to doing nothing but flinging monkey pooh at each other, anything is possible I suppose.

As you seemed to be unwilling or unable to start a thread on the subject, and yet you wanted to post it ... why, I think you should be thanking me. Apology accepted.

A fastidious man, Limbaugh has a keen eye for domestic detail. His staff lights fragrant candles throughout the house to greet his arrival from work each day.

Curiously this is just how I imagined Dev Dave's home life.

That cash will buy lots of prescription drugs.
Hopefully this story ends the way it should: with lots of hookers and blow.

Really? I didn't think he liked the house smelling like lavender?

I think I've found the opening to the newest Jane Austen-esqe novel.

So this is a radio deal ?! damn thats alot of money, in terms of getting the listeners in he must be worth the money, personally i probably wouldn't pay a dollar to listen to him speak, not if i wanted considered political opinion anyway....
