I am just finishing up a Roman campaign. Thank God! Getting so sick of all infantry armies! lol.

So, what is everyones favorite nation to play? I'm thinking about trying Carthage, just because I'd love to use elephants more than I did with the Romans. Or maybe Selucid, because cataphracts are awesome.

Any other ideas? I'm really fond of the super elite infantry, heavy cavalry, and elephants. Any suggestions would be welcome :)

Well, Seleukids then. Alternatively, Baktria.

lets make a poll! I was trying to do this poll before, however I couldn't get how to make a poll :sweatdrop:

oh anb btw my fav faction is.. of course, SPQR! , I don't know why but I find phalanxes battles boring, and I dont have the patience to empy all my arrows when using eastern factions... hehe

Baktria has an exotic mix of cavalry and cool elite infantry (Indo-Greek nobles, Peltastai, Baktrian Royal guard, Indian Guild warriors). I mean they have an entire roster of exotic cool units. Better cavalry than most other factions (Indo-Iranian light/Med/Heavy, Baktrian Cataphracts, Baktrian Hippies, Baktrian HA's), better Infantry, and better archers (Subeshi, Indian Longbowman, Heavy Persian, Archer-spearmen). If you are looking for an entirely different campaign than Rome, then Baktria is one of the best... The downside is that you are no where near the Mediterranean, so if you like amphibious invasions, you will miss that... Of course the campaign is a bit more challenging than the Romani as well, if you like that sort of thing... Did I mention you get elephants as well?

I know that horse archers weren't on your list, but if you want something completely different, try a steppe faction. I found Saka quite fun (once you get over the bit at the start where you have no money), and a real change from infantry battles. You do get some good heavy infantry later in the game, but you have to work for it. Heavy cavalry are there also, and you get to fight against elephants...

For variety and change, I don't think you can beat doing a migrated faction (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=104099) game. I'm playing one with Epeiros-as-Pergamon and having lots of fun. This coming from someone who usually plays only the Romans.

That said, I still don't like phalanxes, barbarian armies or horse archers, which leaves me with few options.

I agree with Quintus Sertorius. Migrational campaigns, a.k.a. moving one factions to another end of the world where it doesn't belong at all, are very fun. I have a campaign with Epirus in Massalia right now, and it's awesome. You should take a steppe faction and migrate to Spain or something as farfetched as that.

I was thinking about migrating Pontus over to the Crimea. Changed my mind and ended up just taking over Anatolia =]

Yes... The vampire mask late bodyguard cavalry is an interesting selling point as well... Your late generals look like undead monsters....

I prefer fighting in the west. Fighting phalanx gets annoying in a while.. :sweatdrop:

I have to say I love every faction almost equally. They are all so diverse and unique, it is impossible to choose just one. When I first started playing, unfortunately I made assumptions about how fun it would be to play various factions, so I never bothered with Hayasdan, Quarthadast, Aedui, Lusitania, Pahlava, Seleukids, etc and I missed out on a lot. I would stick to factions I knew something about, like the Romans or a mainland greek faction, but half the fun of EB is learning about history, and there is no better way than to try a new faction. You learn about the types of governments they had, important monuments, their culture, their rulers, their military. It's quite fantastic.

I know the OP mentioned wanting elephants and super-heavy cav (which my favorite doesn't have), but I find it difficult to believe nobody else likes Getai.

Getai are awesome! You get cheap, super-lethal infantry, horse-archers, elite super-lethal infantry, excellent medium cav. . . and lots of silly Greeks and Romans to try all your toys out on.

Did I mention gold mines? lots of those
Did I mention sea trade? lots of that (after you take Greece)

Getai get to fight everybody. Want to fight againts phalanxes? Go to Greece/Asia minor.
Tired of phalanxes? Go to Italy.
Tired of heavily-armored foes? Go to Germany or Gaul.
Tired of infantry battles? The steppes are a few short provinces to the northeast!

Getai have it all, baby!
