Forget auto-optimize. Just edit your preferences.txt manually and set it there.

that didnt work either. it seems that once i start RTR, the file simply reverts back to original. yes i made sure to save it and double check. i do not understand why changing these data files dont actually do anything in game.

Are you by any chance running Vista?

no i run XP. i run it on a Dell Latitude D600 notebook 512 MB RAM, 1.4 Ghz, with ATI Radeon 9000 64 MB.

i have tried switching my desktop resolution to 800x600 but it just switches back when i start RTR. i have modified both auto_optimise and preferences .txt files.

note this happened pre and post RTR installation.

admittedly, the screen does not look THAT bad, but my screen is only 17" so i find it kind of hard to see some of the units sometimes on the campaign map. 800x600 would be a huge improvement.

could my vid card be to blame? possibly "overruling" what im doing? im just kind of stumped on why the game seems to completely ignore any modding i have done to attempt to fix this.
