BC Mongols look excessive. I really like The Khawrmazm (sp?) Shah units combo of shield walling javelins, good lancers and archers, and alright persian spears. but 1204, it is getting late to attack and crush the Iraqis in order to provide another financial core once Samarkand is rubbed out, and it will take too long to get most of those units into mass-production. the best thing about this faction is the excellent title of Shah.
Abbasids have the necessary spears in numbers, but their bows and cavlry are rather poor.
perhaps Jerusalem? it does start with its back to the.... well, caught between the devil and the deep blue sea ....

Well, I'm not too experienced with the more western factions in BC, but the Rajputs can, if done right, handle the mongols fairly well. Longbows and elephants supported by hordes of everything else you can throw at them.

Javelins do not work against the Mongols in BC. Don't try them. Trust me. My most epic defeat ever in my history of playing Total War games was when I threw a stack of javelin infantry against a depleted Mongol army. Around 2k casualties to inflict 20 or so losses, there's a screenshot around here somewhere.

The Rajput elephants work very well against the Mongols, even their generals, but only the top tier Rajput spearmen are really effective for holding the line and even the top tier Rajput cavalry aren't a match.

That being said, any faction is going to get hit hard in battle by the Mongols (That's a good thing. Enjoy it.), but in the end your production advantage will outweigh the skill of their troops.

I now think its the Ghaznids. they have those pointy things...Spears, that cavalry are so averse to. and daylamites shield wall lets me do well-practised tactics from the Franks in BI, such as marching out (daylamites here, in BI levy spearmen) in open order, then grouping the archers to shoot and drawing up the shieldwall in front, with only a few spears to defend against fast lancers flanking blows vs. the archers. the dual purpose archers really can hurt cavalry that strays within range, they are only vulnerable to lancers. when the archers are out of shots, they become infantry; the shieldwall is dismissed, daylamites fall out into open order ranks and advance to within javelin distance of the enemy infantry, which are then hit with volleys of javelins a second or so before infantry charge contacts them. their second-wave assault then focuses on any units not routing. nice.
