So her I am, just invaded almost all of greece, then use FD to force Epirotes to become a protectorate. All normal so far. I decide then to retrain all my troops, so I can go through Gaul, and also destroy KH t some point. I march my Allied Heay infantry, which almost solely consists of Samniti Milites into Arpi, where I recruited them from in the first place. Aaaaand it turns out I am now unable to train them any more. I have had the polybian reforms, so I don't know if that makes a difference. shouldn't do, as I can still recruit and train Hastati Samniti. So what am I doing wrong? I ould really like to retrain these men, as some of them have 3 or more xp, so They'll e good for m elite arm I am planning on creating at some point.

Help?

They disappear from your roster with the Polybian reform, assuming you upgraded your factional barracks. You can still hire mercenary ones (which I think are the same) to merge into your old ones.

I'd note that the pedites extraordinarii are better.

wha? NOOOOOOOO! In thatr caser then, why are their lighter cousins still available? Also, I use them, becasue I try to use a fairly historical legion setup.

1 Accenci
2 Hastati
1 Velites
3 Principes
2 Triarii
2 Allied Skirmishers
2 pairs of Allied Infantry, 1 heavy, 1 light (insert SM here)
2 Allied Cavalry
1 Equites Romani/Tribune
1 Pedites Exraordinarii
1 Commander

So who do you reccomend I use now for Allied Heavy Infantry? I'm getting some of the neitos from Mediolanum, but they're no real replacement. I'm currently at peace, as I said, so I can use violence if neccesary.

You could use the equites extraordinarii for your consular legions, or some local italic mercenary cavalry like the ligurians or campanians to make up your alae along with some mercenary socii latini infantry. The pedites extraordinarii and their cavalry counterparts represent the elite of the socii alae, so I often choose to combine them with some mundane units.

EDIT: Are you sure you mean neitos, those are gallic heavy infantry ?

Cavalry I'm fine with, (I LOVE Liguarian Cavalry, but I can't wait to get my hands on some Sarmation Noble HA, when I get up there) I never really got on with Equites Extraordinarii. But anyway, I'm looking for a non Pedites Extraordinarii Heavy Infantry. Has army, will travel.

I would hold on to bruttian and samnite mercenaries, despite the lack of retraining options.

EDIT: But if you are set on travelling ( and you would be going there anyway ) Iberia has strong infantry aplenty.

You've got a typo in your post; you said Allied Heavy Cavalry, when you meant Allied Heavy Infantry.

Indeed, I found the same cause for my confusion.

My bad. I'm fairly tired atm, as you may have noticed with all those spelling mistakes I made. Thanks, So right, Iberia it's then. Anywhere else?

That's kind of it for regional heavy infantry; even Iberia is a little limited since all you can get are Milites Ilergetum and Duminanica.

You can get Scordisci Elites in Singidunum with a high-tier regional barracks. Have you thought about mercenaries?

Thanks. I might go for those Scordici. I must say I've noticed a lack of allied hI for Romani. mind you, was there that much at the time, other than the ones we know about?

You can also get Neitos in Gaul and northern Italy. They are in the regional MIC 5 however, so you need lvl4 govs there.

Got them, and they're what I'm using temporarily until I can get something better. Unless they impress me with thier 1337 5|<i115. I might actually march north to get Tekastos, as they've ipresed me in the past.
