Coming of Age Question

How does one determine where your sons that are going to come of age will first end up? I haven't played much from patch 1.5, but in the past I seem to remember them starting out at your empire's capital. Now that is definitely not the case. Does anyone know how to specify where they first start out? Or is it just random?

I never paid much attention to the family tree, but it always seemed that sons pop up with their father's army or garrison.

As far as I remember, they appear at the city where their father is govenor or when he is leading an army they appear at your capital. But don't quote me on that one. I rarely check who made the guy that came of age.
