View Full Version : Expansion wish list

This is what I want to see in an expansion:
Factions
1. Lithuania. Fought against Poland, the Russian principalities, the Teutonic knights, the Golden Horde and the Timurids. Was allied to Poland the Russian principalities, the Teutonic knights and the Golden Horde. Now it`s a small country, back then it was a regional power and the last pagans in Europe.
2. The Balkans. I know it`s not a historical nation but they were allied together against the turks and it might be fun to play with Vlad the impaler as a leader.
3. Bohemia. Once dominated the HRE, had their king installed on the Polish throne when Poland was split up into duchies.
4. The Timurids. This would replace the Golden Horde event, except that they should be tough as heck and I guess in game terms once Timur dies his Empire ffalls into rebel factions hands.
5. The holy orders. I would treat each Holy Order as a faction with provinces. When you call a crusade, they send troops if they are allied to you. It would also reflect the conflicts nations had against solely the holy ordders and not any patron nation. I don`t think I`ll get my wish on this one.
Units
1. Field obstacles. These are stakes, abatis, caltrops. The unsung heroes of the Hundred Years War.
2. War wagons. Used by many Eastern European nations at the time. Made famous by the Hussites.
3. Lithuanian cavalry. Most of Lithuanian cavalry was unarmoured and threw their light lances so a unit like the Jinetes would be nice.
4. Russian Cavalry. I think the Russians fought more like knights until they became vassals of the mongols, so maybe we should give them this knight-like unit until the Golden horde event.
5. War elephants. Timur used them at Ankara 1402.
General stuff
Better diplomacy, be able to give tribute, ask ally to attack etc.
Herladry, give a title, give a coat of arms that is seen on the flag of the unit led by the leader with the title.
Oh yeah, beef up lance armed cavalry and weaken spear`s attack bonuses.

i would like to see more done with amphibious landings. since the ai doesn't utilize this nearly as much as the human player i would like to an egualizing factor implemented. events such as "ships lost in storm 1/3 of your invasion force lost",it would make for some interesting battles don't you think. or "your fleet transporting your forces was intecepted by enemy fleet" and again have a certain % lost. just some things to make the game a little more challenging and unpredictable.

Heres a neat idea - they could allow players to fight naval battles, definately that would add alot to the game, a whole new aspect of gameplay. Also broadening out game to renaissance (1600 max?) so players can build pike and shot units and galleons. I would forgrive CA for its sins with an awesome expansion.

Yep we should ban people like, I'm tired of people pulling my leg.
I want a pencil for the overhead map in multiplayer games. Where we can sketch out our battle plans and discuss strategy before the battle begins.

Thats actually a very cool idea, because its different and would help out in multiplayer games. I like the idea - I suggest you pass it by Creative Assembly at their website.

I would like:
"Brandstifter" of Firesetters - Agents that can destroy buildings!
Archers with burning Missles to set Casles or Oil on fire.
Unit that may lay Oil-pons on the Battlefield and set them on Fire!
Agents and stuff for Pagans.
And much more...

Rich-You're a terrible guy but your commments in this thread are hilarious. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif Anyone who doesn't get it should read the names closer! http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/tongue.gif
Please don't talk of an expansion yet. If a patch doesn't come out, I will not buy an expansion. We must not pay money for things that should rightfully be in the patch. I felt we did that for the Mongol Invasion.

Timurids wouldn't work. Most of their empire was in present day Iran an area not on the map in MTW. I don't think Tamerlane controlled one territory on the MTW map actually.
i think the game should include America and asia and australia and should have more diplomacy than civ 2 and should have it so that each province has at least 4 unique units and every faction no matter how insignificant such as the MacKay clan in scotland should be represented and that every province should be split up more because each province had its own set of people like scotland had more than 40 different individual clans.
now THATs sarcasm http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif
seriously though - come on, a lot of these requests are good ideas, but COME ON... can we let these people do what has to be done first - i mean we are already telling them to do huge things to make the next game, and they havnt even finished patching up this one yet, and even then could we PLEASE focus on more general ideas first? and can we also consider that just because we want something doesnt make it easy to do or even possible - such as MP campaign, i would LOVE an MP campaign, but its not like they can spend 20 minutes work on it and itll be done (lazy bastards that they are http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif).
alright, thats my rant over.

Good point but expansion or not there will be patches for MTW. Failing to do so will jeopardize future sales and the success of the Total War series. Shogun and its expansion were patched several times so there's no reason to think that work on a patch should affect the release of an expansion for MTW.
And we're not telling the devs to do ANYTHING. We're simply offering our suggestions in the hopes that they might actually incorporate them into future patches, expansions and sequels. Many of us love the Total War series and want it to get better with age. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif
Since its release MTW has gotten excellent reviews and is doing well in sales. Those two factors should give a nice boost in sales when the holiday shopping season rolls around. Therefore there is little reason for us not to expect an expansion pack for MTW. I'll wager Activision and CA have already reached an agreement and have begun very preliminary work on an expansion pack or both parties will reach an agreement before the year is done.
I've said this many times before but here it goes again... http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif
- Dark Ages expansion pack. Begin sometime after the fall of Rome (anytime after 500AD). That should give us at least another ~400 years of bloody good fun. Enlarge the map to include more of Western Asia so the rise of the Arab empires can be better represented.
- Improvements to the Tactical & Strategic AI (this goes without saying).
- More playable factions: Hungary, Sicily, Novgorod (for the Early campaign), Golden Horde, etc.
- Improved political model.
- Sortable Lists.
